It may be that I will be moving to Iceland in a couple of months as my partner has just got a new job there, does anyone know if you can get maps of Iceland for the i3??
On a seperate note has anyone tried driving up the A1 towards Leeds,I did this yesterday coming from Nottingham and because of the extensive road works was diverted, its a bit un-nerving when you see your driving in the middle of nowhere on your sat nav!! Anyway after much 're-calculating''re-calculating' the i3 directs me off down some tiny country lane,I thought hang on this can't be right. Anyway went along with the i3 and the next thing I'm driving along an old dirt road between two farmers feilds, this went on for about 2 miles or so and then I came to a farm and the i3 directed me through, by this time Iwas getting very sceptical and worried about being late. So eventually I turn out onto the main road and just on my left was my destination! Couldn't believe it, so I had to take back everything I had said about my i3!!
So even if the i3 didn't recognise the new road at least it made up for it later. |

There are not many roads in Iceland and so few people there everyone knows everyone else or is related to them. Reykjavic is only size of the average British Provinvial town and half population live there. If it wasn't for the fact that everyones called Magnus Magnusson, you could just ask someone in the street where does Magnus Magnusson live and they would know.
I would not think you would need a GPS so much on the road, a couple weeks and you should be finding your way around.
However there is a link on this forum concerning how to get free Iceland maps and use them on an I3, other Garmin or even other non Garmin GPS, these will not be for navigation/auto route planning though.
Still for Iceland I would concider a diferent GPS from the I3, Theres so much wonderful country there, get a GPS that you can use for trecking around on foot not a dedicated car unit like the I3. |
