hi there
have just bought a tom tom 300 and would like to wire this into the car, is it possible to cut the cable supplied with the 300, and hard wire it into the fuse box,
i have already done this for my road angel but unfortunatly the plugs are slightly different

If you cut the Cig Lighter Cable and connect it to the Fuse Box, you can kiss your 300 goodbye.
Seriously tho', the 300 runs at 5V and the Voltage reduction is done in the Plug that you put into the Lighter Socket.
If you want to do a permanent job get a cable that has a lighter socket on the end and hide it all away. Or if you're up to it, make yourself a 5V Power Supply that you can hide somewhere. _________________ Richard

It can go either in a Glove Compartment or in the bulkhead behind the glove compartment. A lot depends on the layout of the car.
It's a long time since I built a Power Supply. You would need a Fixed Voltage IC, rated at 5V 2A output capable of 30V input. Something like the N2576-5, which TomTom use in their Lighter Plugs. Add a couple of Capacitors, a Diode and an Inductor, fit in a box and 'Bob's your Uncle'. _________________ Richard

One thing I must add that if you are going behind the bulkhead, be aware that the Airbags are in that area, passenger side anyway, and if you're not sure, ASK.;) Better safe than sorry. _________________ Richard
