Icn 610 SD Maps!

Post Xmas shopping = NavMan Icn 610, box a bit battered and the mains unit missing.....12v centre positive + 1/2 hr in the shed means all is well with the world for £134!
Dramas arose when I coudnt get Uk onto internal memory, tried buying an SD but all sorts of errors doing that, and if I did manage to get something onto the card, it gave me os-init errors! Since contacted NavMan who have said they will send me the SD card that should have came with the unit (I only had the plastic dummy for shipping).
Seen on another site that someone had probs with the desktop software, dont spose anyones found a work'a'round to get maps onto an SD card?
NavMans suggestion supposes im using a Palm unit for its suggestion, as much use as a choccy exhaust!
