Newbie Help PLZ

I am new to in-car GPS and I am looking for some advice.

I would like a pda solution so i can use it else where and swap software if necessary. I think i am going to use tomtom 5 at first so i have uk maps and can get US maps for it.

My question is am i better going for a separate pda with Bluetooth gps receiver like the tomtom II with SiRFstar III chipset or going for a all in one solution like the Mitac Mio 168 with SiRFstar II chipset?

Then as a follow on would the Mitac Mio 168 be as powerful as a dedicated pda with separate receiver and is there a SiRFstar III chipset version of this all in one device?

Finally if the all in one solution is the best way to go is the Mitac Mio 168 the best?

Cost is a issue but i want something capable of running tomtom 5 or destinator and US maps for tomtom or other US gps software with a reasonable quality gps signal.

Sorry for the long winded questions but basically I am a newbie who wants a pda solution that will run GB and US software and be reasonably accurate what can people suggest that will last a little while?

Oh and is the Acer N35 PDA be better or worse than the Mitac Mio 168?

or the Garmin iQue M5 sorry... Im told the Mitac is better than the Acer is that right and if so is it better than the garmin?

I personally have not used the Acer or the Garmin iQue M5 but can advise you that the Mitac 168 is one of the highest selling units. It sells well due to the price and the functionality of the device, the fact that you can use it and out of the car without cables etc makes it a really good mobile device. What GPS software are you thinking about??

Tomtom 5 or destinator.

Perhpas some US software not sure the best to use there.

Heard stories that the power connector is not too good but could get a fixed cradle with power?

Any other issues? Is it worth waiting the A201 or thinking about another solution?

yeah the base connector has came loose ona few of them that i have seen. Its really up to you as its your money at the end of the day, do searches on www.google.com for reviews on the products.

would i be better off with a hp 3715 and a tomtomII bluetooth reciever? only thing is they not all in one...

Are there any GPS craddles for a hp 3715 that are sirf star III?

hi just my thoughts on what I did. I was lookin at the mio 168 with tom tom navigator 5 but after searching round the internet I brought a Yakumo delta x pda with a built in gps. The yakumo has a better sepc than the mio 168 in that the gps recever is a sirf111, it has a detacable battery and comes with windows mobile 2003 second edition also has 64k rom & 64k ram memory (www.yakumo.com) I brought tom tom navigator 5 of the net and a window mount. the total cost was a simular price to the mio 168 but in my opinion a better pda. if you need any more details let me know?

Thanks for your replys but i ended up getting a Holux GPSmile 60 which seems to work really well for my needs.
