Hello,

I bough a navman 510 a week ago and it seems to me that the time it takes to make its first GPS fix (when you turn it on) is far too long.

It usualy takes 5 to 10 minutes and by the time it finaly locate my position, I am already driving via a suboptimal route.... excessively irritating.

How long does it take for you guys to get this first GPS fix? is it faster that what I have? If yes is there a known problem with some 510 that explains why my device is underperforming?

Finaly, would anybody know what should be done to improve signal reception in general (apart from an outside antena)

Many thanks,

Olivier

Hi Olivier
My 520 can take 5 or 10 minutes to get an initial fix, if you are moving it is much more difficult for the unit to get a fix and may not even get a fix, so your best bet is not to drive off until you have a fix, or I`m afraid, get an external aerial.

I have both a 510 as well as a 650 unit. The 510 does generally take around 1 minute but sometimes does take 5 minutes or so,. Whereas the 650 is literally seconds (usually takes longer to select the route, including a shortcut than the gps to get a fix), and has never been more than a minute.
