Spotted this on Garmin's website - looks like the same spec as the i3, but with an internal hard drive as well as the transflash card. Doesn't say what size hard drive. Is being released next month in the US.

wonder what happened to the i4 though.... |

i5 just sounds superior to i4!!!
My money would still lie with the StreetPilot c-series. I need that bigger screen. Eye sight must be going in my old age!!!

i guess the maps would be installed on the hard drive? and the t-flash only used for custom poi's? dunno.. it doesn't really say that much about it using a hard drive. 'spose it'd fit the full map of the usa on it rather than loading the particular state you're going to.

on the i5 all the mapping is on the t-flash card like the uk version..the usa i3 comes with a mapping dvd where-as the i5 is preloaded and is at a retail of $499 ($100 more than the i3!) |

so what's on the hard-drive then, if the maps are all on the card? it'd have to be a might big transflash to get the whole of the USA on one card.
I'd have thought that the maps would be preloaded on the hard drive, and the card would be for PoIs and other custom files, and to access other maps released on transflash, like the europe ones....
who knows - only just bought the i3, so not planning on an upgrade just yet! :D |

i stand corrected gg..it seems the data is loaded onto built in flash memory (hard drive) and there is no mention of a t-flash card... |

We'll have to wait until it's released here, if it ever is......
Garmin's page on the i5 says "StreetPilot i5 comes preloaded with detailed maps .... Like the i2 and i3, it also comes with removable TransFlash™ data storage capability."
over $100 more though.
technology doesn't stand still, does it?! |
