am i the first with NAVMAN PIN 570

just got it today
finally had enough of my xda 2s and bluetooth and phone reception problems and its now all on ebay

i have bought the navman pin 570 pocket pc with the integrated antenna and no bluetooth problems as its all integrated
having tampered around with it all day i have now got installed and working
my co-pilot live v4
tom tom navigator 3
and the uk postcode lookup program

it is all working perfect and these "outside" programs are able to pick up the built in gps on com 8

so for any potential purchasers with older software they dont want to make redundant yet this is a good integrated option

also the pin 570 comes with smartst 2005 which on the face of it seems to be the same as V3 with better address lookup
havent had it long enough to do any journeys to see if any new streets have made it onto the maps as opposed to my xda 2s/navman 4420 setup

I got one too!! Had it a couple of weeks. Its my first satnav/pocket pc, so can't compare it to others. I was a bit reluctant to spend so much on a new toy but I'm loving it!!!

With reference to your sig, I have just been testing Navicore on the P910 and I'm a little dissappointed. Unlike the Nokia versions which have a great and very intuitive control system, the P910 version uses menus and the jog wheel. It's Ok but not nearly as effective.

Assuming costs are similar, TomTom is the better of the two in my opinion.

Thanks Darren, what puts me off about TT5 is the additional GRPS services at extra cost. I realise that if I don't want them I don't have to have them and better to have a cost option than no option at all but ummmmmm!!! Could you give a quick 'pros & cons' for each in 910 format please?

Has TT5 actually started shipping for the P910i yet too?

I have (just about) convinced my wife we(I) need sat nav as we often get lost or should say we make unscheduled detors when out and about; often with a caravan on the back of the car 8O

I would also like to know if the pc bit is any good? Have you wifi'd yours? can it be done? I have a wifi setup at home and it would be great to surf the net in the living room, (wife hogs the laptop).

I also like playing with excel and mp3's. Any comments? Sound quality etc.

please help as getting this choice wrong is an expense I can ill afford both in terms of money and gloating.

My thoughts as a Nokia 6680 user who's has both TomTom Mobile 5 and Navicore UK which I recently bought...

Navicore isn't quite ready yet to challenge TomTom just yet..

It doesn't have Full postcode search (already mentioned here) - major requirement as soon as possible!

It doesn't have an 'arrows' screen or 'turn map view off' as it is TomTom .. I find this view very useful on such a small screen and it is my usual way to use TomTom Mobile 5 ... however I was told my Navicore that they have a beta version in testing that includes this...

Now in my opinion .. if they get these two features in ... they will be closing the gap significantly ...

Now a few other gripes ..

I notice that road names were displayed but NOT necessarily the ref of the road, for example an A road's name should be displayed like:

Didsbury Rd - A5145

Instead of just Didsbury rd as I nolticed often it was diplayed this way in Navicore ( TomTom as far as I can see in arrows view displays both road name and ref... As maps and road signs in UK genrally show the the ref no of the road A6, B545, A41545 etc etc .... it makes the whole process of confirming that the satnav directions are correct and that your following them correctly a whole lot easier if road name and ref are on screen.

That a side I must say that the people at Navicore seem very progressive and I can see them closing the gap on TomTom quickly.. the app itself runs quickly it's never crashed on me and it works great with my Parrot bluetooth car kit, it evens releases the car radio mute after a voice instruction ... TomTom keeps the mute on which annoys the hell out of me....
