I have TomTom Navigator 2 2.05 (UK), which I'm perfectly happy with.
However, for walking routes, Navigator 2 isn't the best choice. I tried out some routes in areas of London I know well. This showed that Navigator 2 doesn't know about footpaths.
To see what I mean, plan some walking routes in and around Hyde Park - if you look at A-Z or other mapping, you'll see there's many more footpaths than Navigator 2 shows, and, in any case, what footpaths are shown are 'roads' that Navigator will not navigate down - they have the dashed markings on them.
Is CityMaps any better in this respect - does it know about footpaths? Are there any more details in the mapping compared to Navigator 2 (I get the impressions the file sizes are larger than Navigator 2 for similar sized areas, though this could just mean Navigator 2 has better compression).
I think I'm right in saying CityMaps doesn't have the Navigator screen. Apart from that, is it pretty similar?
I presume Navigator 2 can't use CityMaps data - or can it?
Just trying to understand what's what,

CityMaps uses the same maps that Navigator uses so you won't see any extra footpaths etc. CityMaps 2003 (the latest edition) does have a Navigator style screen but it's limited and doesn't have full feature support like Navigator does.
The problem with CityMaps is that you have to load the corresponding map for the city you are in. If you want to travel to another city you can plot a route to the boundary, then you have to change map, and then plot a new route. You can't stitch maps together or route between maps. |

Does anyone know it is possible to convert the maps that come with CityMaps to work with Navigator 2? I have both products but they don't coexist very well. Clicking certain options in Navigator causes you to jump into CityMaps. In any case it is a waste of memory having both apps loaded up at once. I would like to use some european maps when I go on holiday but can't afford the complete set for Navigator 2 at 189 euros! _________________ Chris Williams |

Chris, it's not possible out of the box. I'm sure if someone spent enough time on it they could work it out, but it's something TomTom obviously don't want people to do. |
