Using 510 While Fellwalking

Can the 510 be used while out fellwalking
What level of detail is displayed as the software with the unit seems to display roads only.
Can i download any updates that will show footpaths etc while out on the local mountains

As far as I know it isd only useful for roads. When I have tried to record my position when off road, it refuses and asks me to go to the nearest road. No familure with any other software you can put on it for fell walking purposes - but you can buy dedicated gps units for such a purpose - though you probably know that already.
