Hi, I have searched the forums and then general consensus is that Eire is only covered by the Major roads of Europe map....what's with that??!! Surely if Tomom can bring out maps for 16 countries in Europe there would be one for our closest neighbour....
Any thoughts?? |

Eire is covered by more than major Roads (just!). Tele Atlas coverage is currently down to street level for 20+ towns/cities but it is still far from perfect.
If you want the best coverage for Eire you would be better looking for a product that used Navteq maps as they currently have the best coverage, but things are getting better with a concertive push by Tele Atlas this year though it may be some time before this new data is available to end-users.. _________________ Ian.

TomTom actually buy their maps from TeleAtlas. For some reason, both TeleAtlas and Naqteq have poor coverage of Éire (although it's improving quite quickly).
I think TeleAtlas and Navteq buy the bulk of their mapping data from Government sources and the Government supplied mapping of Éire is either incomplete, poor quality, inaccurate or in the wrong format. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Some months ago a friend of mine phoned Garmin about the availability of decent maps for Eire, and was told "there's no demand for them"...
(You can then imagine the call-centre person putting down the phone, and saying to a colleague, "You know, that's the ninth call about Eire maps today"!)
