The recent news on mytomtomgo.com regarding three new "GO" products to be announced at CeBIT has me worried. This is because of the response I got when I asked TomTom about the map version issue and the likelihood of a map update at some point:
Response 23/11/2004 12.43 PM
Dear Mr ******,
TomTom is an innovative company that always strives to have the latest updates and technology. We therefore have once a year a Upgrade program where customers of TomTom are offered to buy the latest version plus the maps for a reduced price. All registered TomTom user we will keep inform about future releases and upgrades.
We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team

You see, that suggests to me that they don't necessarily intend to actually make new maps available for the exsisting product: they may just use them as leverage to get us to upgrade to a new version of the entire product - at a "reduced price", of course, but that could still be quite a lot more than we would be expecting to pay just for some new maps!
Does anyone have any better information than this? |

Hi bluekieran,
to the forum!
With TomTom Navigator for the Pocket PC, TomTom have in the past offered a new version with new maps.
As the TTGO is less than a year old and hasn’t had a map rollout from TomTom (forget the v3.14 vs. v3.90 maps argument as that’s different) then we don’t know how things will work. Rest assured that the TTGO is very important to TomTom and they will want to keep their customers happy.
TomTom may release a CD with Maps only upgrade. If the hardware is capable of running the next version, then you may get a CD with the upgrade to the next version of TTGO plus updated maps. You may even get the same on an SD card. Although the SD card option may cost more.

I forgot to say that the upgrade CD for TomTom Navigator 2 to TTNav 3 for the Pocket PC cost €49.00 plus €9.95 post and packing, in April 2004.
