Our iPaq 3970 has died. Nothing happens when we press the On button. The charging indicator light shows no sign of life when we put the iPaq in its cradle, or when we plug the power lead in. The charging indicator for the spare battery in the expansion sleeve seems to be behaving normally.

Has anyone else experienced a sudden death like this? Are there any known tricks to try in order to resuscitate the machine?

Are there any recommended repairers in SE England or South London?

Hoping someone can help!

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

You could have a look at iPAQ Repair & Parts.

Did you ever back it up, i.e. use Sprite Back up? If you did, have you tried a hard reset and then if that works restore it?

Regards,

Thanks for the suggestions.

However ... in the meantime I have been googling and I have stumbled on a web page (www.ipaqrepair.co.uk) of iPaq Tips which has pointed out that a simple press of the Reset button can bring a "dead" iPaq back to life!

Perhaps this should have been obvious, but it never occurred to me that Reset (cold reset, that is) works when the machine is off.

from a much relieved (albeit balder)
