I read somewhere that you could buy something like a TMC pager, now, in lieu of having a decent piece of navigation software that has TMC capability, I'd settle for something like that.
Anyone know if such devices exist, or if I dreampt it? :S |

It looks like such a device exists alright - on the ITIS website there's an iTMC receiver - no idea how big it is or what exactly it does but it would seem strange to make it too big.... but then again it is ITIS we're talking about |

You mean TrafficScout - http://www.gns-gmbh.com/en/30_tmc.php Unforunately, when you click on the link to the product it comes up in German, and I'm sure I remember reading somewhere they have stopped development and/or selling this device, which is a shame, as I'd love to have one.
I also think the price makes it a non starter, even for the functionality it offers. |

http://www.gns-gmbh.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21&language=en gives a bit more detail and EU pricing - the Professional seems to include both a 230v power supply and a data cable...
€169 makes for an expensive device to give you traffic information - although I still see the charm and usefullness of this gadget. |

... and of course the device needs to have the UK TMC road data available and loaded into the device - the precursor to TrafficScout only came with German and Swiss road data, so before anyone thinks this is worth a purchase - I would recommend checking with GNS as to whether the device supports the UK.... |

Found some interesting devices like the AA Personal Roadwatch 1800 (discontinued, no subscription changes, but limited) and the Trafficmaster stuff (map display, but has subscription). No TMC devices though.

However, to provide a TMC based device you need to keep the road data information stored within the unit up to date, which means a very different pricing model - remember the 1800 and other units were only so cheap as the pricing model included a 50p per minute phone number to ring up and be given more details of the problems. |

I was actually bidding on an 1800 on eBay, but it's gone above 20 pounds |
