Regarding lost voices: I was just about to revert then I tried one last thing.
I extracted the cab file on my PC and located the LoquendoTTS folder and noticed lots of extra files in the root for the old 720 version. So I cleared the entire contents of the folder on the device and copied just the 2 (bin and lib) from the backup to the device. Then I copied just the LicenseCode.txt file back to the root on the device.
With this done I connected via home and downloaded the computer voices again and all seems to be working.
I haven't tried this in anger yet and it would seem that pressing top right of the screen doesn't read out the next command (is this the same in 8XX hardware versions?). But a quick test outside gave me commands as I walked outside. Will report back any issues.
EDIT NOTE!!!!! This actually didn't work. See response from me further on.

That helped for me but I have now lost my favourite voice Simon, the computer based voice. He does not show up as available for download. Now how do I get him back? |

Well as an addendum to the above, I think I was a little hasty. It would appear that although you can get the test button to work, anything coming from the navigation (i.e. from the map data) doesn't work with computer voices.
Seemed to be fine with standard voices as mentioned earlier.
Had some issues with access to my TTServices account via my phone too so as I need this over the weekend I'm reverting back to previous version.
If I go for it again and it works out ok I'll post back.

Er! I don’t want to be a ‘Party Pooper’ but why is everyone so anxious to get the new 8.2. All I see is moans and groans about voices missing and lost favourites etc.
I still have 8.010 and it runs just dandy. After reading all the Post Replies I think I will leave well alone. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

To be fair Trevor, you are being a party pooper because as we grow up, nothing changes but our toys get more expensive! :-)
I'm sort of halfway between. I like to have a tinker but if it's loads of hassle then I'll give up. I'm just a big kid with a new toy and unashamedly so! _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

Not being rude at all. I would like to think that myself and all others on this forum are adult and sensible enough to make their own decisions.
However when an issue comes up like this you are always the one bleating about "i'll leave this well alone" fine thats your choice but please don't ram it down the throats of those that choose to be in your eyes less sensible.
I remember from past issues you tried to update before, what happened did it all go wrong for you? If members are competent enough to try these tweaks then so be it and if by chance it did go wrong then you always have your windows explorer back up to fall back on eh.
I see people are having issues with voices, i don't have this problem my unit runs like a dream and it now switches off instantly which is a good addition. The menus are so much smoother, ok it's eye candy but as Dougproctor said "try it, it's not gonna self destruct". |

Well I'm just repasting my original backup "back" as I write. As soon as the unit locked onto satellites, all the sound went, including *gasp* the PGPSWorld speed-camera warnings!
A pity. The Navcore 8.2 refinements look great but it seems that the sound is not set up for the latest maps for my 920. That or some other technical issue - I can only assume that the chap for whom all worked fine either has older maps or some querk of his installation solved problems that have beset the rest of us.
I had followed Mike's excellent advice and installed via WINRAR but it was not to be. The new operating system looked great too. I'll just have to wait until they release it officially along with HD hardware etc. As they surely will as this is a vast revenue pool.

I installed to my Go 520 as per excellent instructions in the topic... but no voices either... even when selecting a voice and pressing "Test"... I eagerly await the findings of more knowledgable members... long live the "tweakers"...

Alan, have you tried this with a non TTS voice selected? it could be only these that are being troublesome.
@ TheTrotter, did you get the e-mail I sent earlier? - Mike |

I did Mike, and I replied. I'm awaiting your next promised email with anticipation too. Perhaps my reply ended up in your junk filter?
I tried a number of workarounds for the voices - computer, non-computer generated. I even deleted the LoquendoTTS folder contents and reinstalled from my backup contents - to no avail. My pet theory is still that the latest Western European map and the new 940 sound protocols - are simply not compatible in the present programming. |

No, I haven't actually Mike... I tend to use the computer voice to be able to have the verbal warnings via RDS-TMC... may try a non-computer voice, thank you.
I tried this version of Navcore to see if the "read text" facility might be enabled from my mobile phone... but no such luck... ... no great loss, but the trouble with technology... the more facilities they give us... the more we want,...

Personally i never use voices, i just dont need any one to tell me where to turn, but i still have it set up. I have a TomTom voice this is because i dont really care for it. Saying this though i have enabled it to see if it works and for me yes it does. I can see from the forum that it is not working for many par se, i dont know what it is that makes mine work, but i dont use it anyway.. |
