Looking at the pictures, the V2 receiver appears to be the same as the original one, but with the external antenna that most people have already added using the DIY solution.

That's what I meant

Todays reply:

Dear Mr V,

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

As mentioned by my colleagues before, the new RDS TMC receiver is not yet available for you as of yet. There is no set date as to when this item will become available. After reviewing this case, I've also noticed that you've made the request to receive this part several times, which is still not yet available. We apologize for this inconvenience and understand your fustration.

Our 2nd Line Team already has your details in their database and once this replacement is available, it will be shipped to you without further delays.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

With Best Regards

The TomTom Customer Support Team

Still doesn't tell us when though does it, but at least for once I have had a straight answer.

To be fair, clearly first line support do not know the situation with regards to the UK.

This isn't their fault but it is the fault of those further up the chain who know the issue and aren't coming clean.

And the issue is what?

the version 2 receiver doesn't work either?

or they have 10,000 people waiting for replacements and they haven't manufactured enough yet?

Come on Darren, time to come clean and tell us what you know (or at least drop a few hints)!

A poor translation of the instructions for the v2:

Note: The reliability of the reception of the infos traffic TMC strongly depends: optimal placement of the antenna, characteristics of the vehicle (e.g., windshield with thermal reflexion), immediate environment (e.g., mountains, large bātiments), signal of transmission of stations radio RDS-TMC. Before connecting receiver RDS-TMC for the first time, check that your TomTom apparatus is extinct. 1. Fix the TomTom apparatus on the support of windshield. 2. Connect receiver TMC at the base of ONE XL or on your base of windshield GO. 3. Place the TomTom apparatus in the left lower corner of the windshield of the vehicle, then firmly support the suction cup against the windshield. 4. Firmly support the suction cup located at the top of the cable of antenna (different from the suction cup which is on the ovoid receiver) against the left higher part of the windshield of the vehicle. 5. Firmly support the suction cup located at the bottom of the cable of antenna (different from the suction cup of the base of windshield) on the left lower part of the windshield of the vehicle. 6. Support the suction cup located on the ovoid receiver against the windshield at the site which you consider most judicious. Avoid of too much tightening the cables. 7. Light your TomTom and open the led Mode.

Got this yesterday. Same old song but a different tune....

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

The new RDS-TMC receiver is just now being released. We do not currently have an exact date as to when they will be dispatched.

With Best Regards

I know the issue and I also know the solution but I have been asked to give TomTom time to make an official announcement. I will contact them one last time and ask them to make this announcement or I shall do it for them!

And the solution is....

order one off of the Belgian website and then send your old one back in the new packaging for a refund saying it doesn't work?

and the solution is....

get a replacement version 2 receiver that still doesn't work but at least this time it has an antenna on it so you can connect it to an external antenna without having to split open the case.....

or

some poor s*d in a factory somewhere in china is manually soldering antenna sockets on to the version 2 UK receiver!!!

It is worth waiting for now just to see how they bodge it together for the UK market!

One other thought is that the supplier might be waiting for iTIS and the additional new radio transmission stations to be brought on line in the UK, an increased signal coverage will undoubtedly assist with reception, unfortunately this process seems to be taking a rather long time.

Ever the optimist - I look forwards to this system working, the V1 works for me at times post its connection to a decent aerial (not something one should have to do with a consumer product though Crying or Very sad ).

I will say it again - an external aerial connection point is a requirement for this device for reliable usage in any country, at least those people living and commuting in fringe reception areas then have an option to connect a decent feed to the device sadly I cannot see such a connection on the linked pictures of the V2 - Mike

I so want this to work - it is a shame we have such poor reception (especially in the NW).

I am just getting really frustrated with the lack of straight answers - I will have had my GO510 Traffic edition for 5 months and the maps are now 2 versions out of date (which TomTom refuse to do anything about) and I am still waiting for a fit for purpose RDS-TMC receiver.

At this rate as soon as the 520 is available I am going to return mine to the retailer as not fit for purpose with all of my TomTom cases printed out as evidence and get a refund.

If I manage to swing a TMC receiver out of them after that because I will still have a copy of my original receipt then so be it - I can't see them asking for the old one back (it will need glueing back together and a wire desoldering anyway).

Andy about the only RDS-TMC unit that works in the NW that I have tried is the Navman T1, Garmin used to be very good around this area but since the sale of Century FM late Dec last year the TM transmissions stopped. It would appear iTIS will at some future point start to use this mast.
Once switched on the NW coverage should be much improved for the iTIS data users (TomTom and Navman) - Mike
