Hmm, did the minister actually answer the question?
Quote: | It will belong to the jurisdictions seized of possible continuations against these companies to determine so the aforementioned devices are or not of nature or presented as being likely to detecting the presence or disturbing the operation of the systems of control. |
Which appears to say that it is a grey area and "it will be up to the authorities to test this in court".
Or do I miss read it? Any native French speakers care to offer an opinion? _________________ Gone fishing! |

Well.... I see your point. It depends how you read it. It might be that the translator programme translates the word for word literal meaning, rather than the meaning of certain strings of words.
I'll PM 'etters' he speaks French. Hopefully he can give us the correct translation. _________________ Tommo...

many thanks for your PM 999tommo and I must say that the translation is very good so I will not go into it all, and what you have said is quite right, however what part of the responce is saying is that there are companies that are making "DETECTORS"which can disturb the presence of the speed camera's these are totally illigal in France, as I have said in other of my post on this subject.
The use of a GPS system with the camera's on it is not a DETECTOR it is a map with them on already and serves to help the driver drive his car safely.
Skippy states that he thinks that it is a grey area, This is in reference to the DETECTORS and the companies that manufacture them.
Under no cicumstances use them here, as your command of the French language will become very good as that is all they speak in prison, that is if you cannot pay the fine.
I hope that you have a good time in France with the Tom Tom and if you get down this way pop in and see me for a few beers. just to close I would suggest that you carry a copy of the email with you in the car so if you are stopped and asked about it you can show the police so that they can understand you and you will have no problems, as most of them are ok, but just the same in the UK on a bad day Ha Ha sorry 999tommo but thats life I suppose. _________________ Takara GP56 igo primo 1.1

Thanks etters for clarifying things. And thanks for the offer of beers, but I am heading for La Rochelle and nowhere near Nice. Pity _________________ Tommo...

You are both very welcome and the offer of a beer go for all of you if you get down this way, it will be great to put a face on the people that I talk to.
Also if you go to (controleradar.org) the French side, print out the first two pages and keep them in your car as well, you will then be ok for France, and you should have no problems, unless of course you were speeding, and then you are on your own, but I hope you all have a good time in France
Regards

I shall be down there in September, staying at a camp site near Biot. I will try to take up your offer of a beer. _________________ Charlie Gregory

Well I'm back from France and found the TT invaluable there. The speed camera databases worked a treat too and despite passing numerous Gendarmes at road checks, I was not bothered at all (my TT is mounted on the right side of my windscreen so was clearly visible to them at their side of the road). What I did notice though was that despite having numerous mobile site warnings, I didn't see any mobile cameras, except for one on display at a stand in a service area of an autoroute. _________________ Tommo...

I used the ones from www.alertegps.com They are free and updated weekly, so just download the files the week before you leave. _________________ Tommo...

Is the site down or is that an incorrect URL? |

Definately correct and just tried it and it works. I have posted a link below which should take you to the download. Click on the button marked telecharger once you are in the site and a zip file containing the French cameras will download.
