And you can make a shortcut to that exe to save yourself delving down that deep and it works OK.

This is very strange.

I uninstalled the working version.

I unzipped the file and ran setup which seemed to work. It placed the icon on the desktop. When I clicked on that, nothing happened. I checked the start menu and it has placed an entry there which also doesn't work.

I can 'see' system files etc.

I went to my user folder, and there is no folder called 2 in appdata/local. I then checked the roaming and program data folders with no luck.

When I look at the properties of the icon, it doesn't point to anything.

I don't know if this helps. I'll uninstall it and reinstall the working version and report back.

Apologies and grovel. End of week and age. I've found it!

However, the executable is 240KB and doesn't do anything if I click on it.

It will run from Revo though which is a bit strange.

EDITED: If I run it as admin then it works.

If you have been rooting around in the weird folders. There are two sub folders, one with just the .exe and an icon. This one does not open the prog. You need the .exe in the sub folder that has a bunch of other files in it (a couple of manifest files and a bunch of others). That opens the prog just fine on a double-click (or as an administrator). Then right click the .exe - Create shortcut. Then cut and paste the shortcut into a location of your choice.

The shortcuts generated by 'Click once' are different to the 'normal' Windows shortcut. Although you can't see what they are pointing at, they do (normally) work.

I've compared all the application and manifest files from mine and M8 and they are all binary equivalent (absolutely identical), thanks KDiff.

I'm at a loss why the ClickOnce shortcut is failing when the program itself will run when forced.

Can either of you try this, it seems Win10 may have a UAC problem.

Still clutching at straws.

I can't find any relevant HKLM entries on my system. I used regedit and find but no luck.

Okay here's a weird one that has me stumped ...

I recently reported a speed camera change to a couple of cameras near Bracknell, changing one from 70 and one from 40 both to 50. They now show as 50 in the database, cameras are 172935 and 164704.

Just downloaded the new database. Used the convertor and sent the file to my nuvi. Both show and are announced as 50.

Yet the same file viewed in BaseCamp shows the original speed limits!

I've shut down the PC, deleted then recopied the file, it still shows in BaseCamp incorrectly.

Any thoughts?

A follow up, it's clearly a BaseCamp issue that I need to investigate. Downloaded the latest camera files. As before, speed limits show correctly on my device. With it connected and BaseCamp showing the file on my device correctly it still shows the cameras incorrectly on the BaseCamp map page Rolling Eyes

Further testing reveals something very strange and I no longer think it's a BaseCamp issue. This afternoon I copied the file from my 2508 to my wife's 1310. On mine it announces the speed cameras as 50, on hers the same as on BaseCamp, one is 40 and one 70. All I can now think is that somehow the file has both, my 2508 picks up the 50, BaseCamp and my wife's nuvi the others. I await with interest K's new version, as I've completely cleared all the relevant folders so I can start afresh Very Happy

The new version is available via the beta link posted yesterday.

If you're on Win10 it looks like there is an issue with the desktop icon, or start menu shortcut that refuses to run the program. From the exe file though it runs fine.

Having now investigated the manifest and config files I can't see any difference from my late 2016 ones and those created today.

I don't know whether it's my system or the 3 Win10 machines. If you have Win7 still it would be interesting to see if it works as before. It does on another Win7 machine I have.

What I have done today as part of trying to fix the issue is upgraded my app to .NET 4.5.1 ( from 4.0) and upgraded the installer from 3.1 to 4.5

Tried that registry hack. Mine was set to 1, so I set it to zero (reboot). The .exe based shortcut would then only work with Run as administrator and the ClickOnce shortcut didn't 'do anything'. Set it back to 1 (reboot). ClickOnce shortcut and Start shortcut don't work but the .exe based shortcut now runs on a double click.
So just the same.

The desktop icon, and the Start Menu entry, opens the program on my Win7 PC. But as I don't have a Garmin I am unable to go any further. Confused

It indicates Version 2017.01.06.53

The problem was just with the desktop icon and Start menu entry not starting the programme. So it sounds like it's a W10 thing with Click Once. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Oldboy, looking like Win10 then.

I used system restore data to see if anything on mine had changed, and since the SR created on 1st Jan before my monthly backup, nothing has changed.

I'm trying to understand the appref-ms thing that the shortcut uses. Apparently there is a file it links to before it uses the manifest file that I need to find.

Very annoying.

I 'upgraded' to the previous version of the converter just after Christmas and there have been no MS updates, according to my W10 system, since then. Unless there have and they haven't listed them!

I have access to a Win10 virtual machine.

The machine is Win7 and the program works fine.

Under Win10, same machine, no go.

However, log into Win10 as "Administrator" and it works.

Set up a User as Local Admin - doesn't work.

So it's a permissions issue with Win10 requiring full Administrative access.

This may take a while.
