Was that to Scotland -- or to Holland??
Mine has now been delivered this morning 18th - at 9am [according to UPS] not bad for speed of delivery -
-- I wonder if those little Christmas cloggies are working on it as we talk
-- getting it ready for its journey home !!
It will be like Christmas all over again when it gets home..
I wish

Hmmmmmm mine did the Scotland trip -- twice --- great -- but --- survived for another three months !
-- and then finally succumbed..
lets hope it works OK when it gets back..
To be honest it is a smashing bit of Kit - when it is working - really does everything it says on the tin - and really enjoy using it -- if you should enjoy such banal things..

Hmmm _ I don't know whether to be thrilled or not -- I had an email from Tom-tom saying that my "order" has been shipped and was on its way -- giving me a tracking number..
and yes I have been following it.. vis UPS tracking
Why my disquiet??
Well the first word of the email was "null"
What does that mean??
Did they find anything ?
If so have they repaired it?
or
Are they shipping it back - As Was?
or
A new 740L??
What does the code "null" indicate??
Perhaps we shall know after Christmas even though it has been dispatched from BARKING, GB at 08.30 this morning -- it hasn't found its way here --Yet..
We are still travelling around using the good and faithful "Classic"
A very Merry Christmas to all

So sorry -- the Tom-tom came back all working
-- "Home" was in Amsterdam !!!
-- but at it was a new one it had to be reactivated against my email etc.
-- and also to be able to "switch on" the Live services.
It didn't have the latest map
-- but they downloaded it to me and I put it on to the 740L
-- still loads of streets missing around here - but thats another story
-- It took a couple of days for the live to be fully active
-- and then they added another three months subscription..
Spent time sorting the Poi's etc
-- from my desktop
-- and also the speed cams etc.
But -- touch wood it seems to be working.. at the moment
Just the odd couple of occasions when the phone hasn't connected..
One other thing.. on the voice activation..
When I ask "Where am I?" it replies "seeking your location"
Then it comes up with a small map screen and the text of the location also with the Lat/ Long of the Location etc. all as previously
BUT - On the old one it used to speak the words out loud and tell me
-- but either I haven't switched something on
-- but this one don't speak the location??
Any ideas why?? what have I done wrong

Do you have a TTS voice selected?
Check your voice preferences as well as you can turn off and on what is and isn't read out to you. |

Not sure as don't have the same model - make sure that you have all the 'read aloud' options selected, and all the 'don't read aloud' options deselected.
If that doesn't fix it then maybe someone with the same model and Navcore will be along soon to help ......... |

Have you looked at your selected/deselected voice preferences as Andy suggested? I too don't have the same model so I can't check. _________________ Dennis

Thanks..
yep I have chosen a computer voice -- and it works for all other messages -- as it did on the former 740L [ this one is a replacment] all good apart from this small point..
mine is a 740L with european maps.

I said "voice preferences" - Andy asked if you've ticked all the preferences needed and unticked the preferences not needed. Just selecting a computer voice doesn't cover all of them. On my device, voice preferences are choices offered on two following screens after you select the computer voice.
So...
Tick everything that offers to read aloud something.
Untick everything that offers to NOT read aloud anything.
And see where that gets you. Sorry, but Andy and I can't get any closer as we don't have the "Where am I?" feature on our devices. _________________ Dennis

I have a 940 and on my current software the TTS voice does not read out your location after a "Where am I?" command. (I ticked all the options for "read aloud warnings" etc.)
I've never bothered using the voice commands and don't usually use a TTS voice so I've no idea if it ever worked, but it certainly doesn't seem to now.
If you are convinced it used to read the position out, maybe they have removed it in one of the several software updates? |
