i think we should get BBC WATCHDOG involved !!! because i think all the mapshare submissions people make ,must end up in a big black hole , tomtom don't do anything with them. its a good job the pocketgps camera database isn't run by Teleatlas/tomtom . |

But presumably to the "old" map. So get your little stylus out and start doing them all over again!!
And people wonder why I don't do Mapshare. |
Nope - did all the updates to the latest version....
And THEN started doing all my corrections AGAIN!!! |
Uh?? I thought the "latest version" is the one I've announced in this thread. Are you doing time travel to do 4 days of corrections to it? _________________ Dennis

I didn't renew my map update subscription after the problems in August. It took TomTom 6 weeks to explore with me possible solutions, before they referred my problems to their technical department.
After a further week the technical department correctly identified that my phone connection to their server was corrupted by the update, and advised me among other things to ask Orange to allow access to over age 18 websites.
Orange got back to me within 16 hours and fixed the problem in 20 minutes while I waited on the phone. |

Should think I've driven about 20 miles with my TT since getting it last Friday.
Most of the corrections are moving/removing Fuel Stations and re-naming roads. The same one's I've been doing for YEARS. _________________ XL LIVE IQ Routes (Europe)

Just managed to squeeze Western and Central Europe 2Gb v840.2562 onto my TT720 but had to remove Kate to get it on.
If I wanted to get Kate back on can I remove the crpoi.dat file which is a similar sized file? _________________ TTG 720

OK, I've just installed the Western and Central Europe 2GB V840.2562 map, which is 1850 MB in size.
Download error
The first problem was that right at the end of downloading, it had an error. This was fixed by:
1. Shutting down Home
2. Shutting down the TT 730 unit and rebooting it, when disconnected from PC.
3. Connecting TT 730 back to PC.
4. Restarting the download, which immediately started the copy process.
Missing speed camera warnings
Once I'd switched on the TT730 it worked, but the speed camera warnings were missing. So instead of retyping the settings I copied the V835.2419 MapSettings.cfg from the backup that I had made previously. Unfortunately this caused the TT730 to constantly reboot.
Constant rebooting problem
To fix the rebooting problem, I connected the TT730 back to the PC and operated it from the TT Home Emulator for a few minutes. This fixed the rebooting issue.
I hope that the above helps, fortunately I'd made a note of recommendations others had made for the V835.2419 map, in this post.
I just hope that my traffic is OK this time!
Don't forget
Before you do anything, backup your TomTom unit, using Windows Explorer.
Map Share updates in V840.2562
So far none of the Map Share updates that I have submitted are in V840.2562, these include:
1. Mini roundabout in Wheatley (Oxon) village (sub'd 15/05/2009)
2. roundabout on the A418 amd a new road to Haddenham (Bucks) village. (sub'd 20/09/2009)

My regular quick check is the roundabout at N51.45224, W2.41845. I have been telling first Teleatlas on their corrections site, and then TomTom by mapshare from approx 10 different devices (including 7 GO720s) over the last couple of years, that there is no roundabout there, that there has NEVER been a roundabout there (at least not since I was in charge of the Highways Depot which covered it in 1975). It's not on a back road, it's a heavily trafficked road leading from Chippenham and M4 junction 18 into East Bristol. _________________ Dennis

I haven't had a proper look at the files yet but the mapshare corrections I made to my own map in 835 have appeared in 840. The Google map on the submission page doesn't have the changes so I'm assuming they are mine.
One thing that may be different to others is that I'm happy to make and submit corrections but never downloaded mapshares on 835.
I know it's tiresome but I end up re-doing all the alerts and a few favourites after each upgrade.
Download time - about 5 hours over two days. _________________ Gerry

More likely not, because you haven't 'credited' them, if that is a fair word to use with TT. |
Ah c'mon, you know what a generous good-natured chap I am (and that's not to mention handsome virile and tired). If they had corrected it I would have been the first to congratulate them.
But I supposed I'll go away now and do my nine corrections for you all again, but as normal, I won't download a single one of yours - it's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I don't trust you. _________________ Dennis

Ah! No, I do not believe it. The download/installation failed.
I have had failures before but this one is new to me. Anyway, I have gone to ‘Home’ again and started the download once more. Interestingly the second download did not resume where it had left off but started again from scratch. I will see what happens this time. With a slow broadband plus I will be soon off to work the result will have to wait until tomorrow. The error is below.

isn't there a file in your old map that can transfered onto your new map and this file has all your own mapshare alterations. the reason is !!! because when i updated my map before , all the roads names and blocked roads were transfered onto the new map, but were not visable on my girlfriends map. |

Tom Tom will have their own dedicated telephone line to Watchdog the way things are going recently.
Just had a check on the Navteq site. ALL the changes I submitted to TA have been included on the Navteq maps (according to there online map)
Roundabout additions/removals, road realignments and alterations, and houseing developments added.
None of which have been included on TA's online map.
TomTom have less and less appeal these days.

I agree with Graham2812 but what is your alternative? Copilot is the most competitive but its routing is really poor at times. From the forum posts of other equipment there are very few users.
PocketGPSWorld gives us all of the downloads in TomTom format by default, and surely could be as big a thorn in TOmTOm's side as Watchdog. Watchdog is a one day wonder - they want good TV but I cannot imagine they follow up after the initial report. We need a permanent fix.
I've just got a new pda, so am looking to see whether to port my old TT6 across, or buy a TT7 with its latest maps. I only want a download not another micro SD card.
A warning to others: this from the TomTom web site - "Latest map guarantee is not available for NAVIGATOR 7". That means I'd need to but direct to be sure of getting the latest map. |

Agree that a lot of work has been done by Navteq in Dundee, but less successful in Edinburgh - 2 Roundabout removals (Kings Road/Portobello and Milton Road/Duddingston Park) are still not correct - but they have doen the A1 link junction half a mile away ... strange. However TA at least are consistent - NONE of these changes have been made. |
