New way to do custom POI warnings in TomTom 5 & 6

Its actually not quite as simple as I made out, for a start there is no way to preview the audio to listen (or record) it when using this mode! - you will have to run a route past each of the camera types to get the warning.

Look at the options for Navigate to POI etc then use Advanced Planning for the route followed by Route Demo to get the device to speak your warning.
At least you now have a use for the supplied 3,5MM stereo jack plug lead. - Mike

Or...

I could send myself a sms txt message saying, warning 20 mph gatso ect, or whatever i end up "recording" and then route the sound through my pc via this method.

Would this work??!!

Of course, my phone would be connected to my go 910 via bluetooth and would then read-out aloud the txt message.

Give it a try and let us know what happens, I have never bothered with SMS read out (could prove too embarrassing depending upon who is in the car, so I don't switch in on), this way you could use upto 160 characters IIRC (SMS limit) rather than the 60 character limit in POI Warnings - Mike

Hello all.
Have tried all & still not working for my Tom Tom Mobile on my Nokia N70
Have downloaded the '.ogg' files into my GB map folder (where the .bmp
& .ov2 files are).
Had deselected the POIs, then selected - still no joy. Still gives me the normal sound choces - ie. polite,bell,etc.
Please help somone!

I have recorded my own warnings. It was very simple - but I do use a iMac running OS X most of the time!

I use a program which is free, called Audacity to record on my iMac, which has every thing built in - sound/mic etc. I think Audacity might be available on other OS's.

Then I 'export as' the files in ogg format.

Couldn't be simpler.

I have noticed that the sound levels are very low, even though I was almost shouting at the mac! (I haven't spent ant time yet with different settings)

When Jane speaks, or when a safety camera warning is spoken there is a click before the voice. Any ideas? I didn't notice it before I added the warning ogg files.

Could possibly be a "DC offset" on your sound files, where the waveform is not sitting exactly around the O Volt centre line. Most of the sound edit packages I use have an option to remove this before saving (not sure about Audacity though).

Hi
Looking for some help. I have downloaded and installed the low bridge poi files from here - http://www.amngps4.wanadoo.co.uk/poifil.htm - every thing is working fine on Ver 6.52 on my Rider, only problem I have is that after converting the wave files to ogg files the warning voice sounds like it is speaking in slow motion. I have tried various sound converters but all turn out the same, can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong.

What sample frequency have you selected when converting to the OGG file format, 22050Hz is the recomended value - Mike

I know you have all probably been over this before but I’m totally not getting this or I’m missing something. I’ve down loaded the Liz Whittaker file and put it into GB map folder it works but volume is very low. Now I’m lost when you all talk about these converted files to ogg, is this something I have to do.
