In theory it's from when first used. BUT if it doesn't work properly and you have to go to Support with it, they'll ask for proof of purchase with the date on it. The only way round that would be perhaps to say it was bought as a birthday gift and kept until Der Tag. Don't know how far you could stretch the dates.
Greenglide I've just been offered (by Home) Map Update Service for my Europe v890 map for under £40.

Well when I get home I will have to log into home to get the 895 maps (I was on holiday when it came out) and see what it offers me.
TT have a knack of making things look cheap by starting at such a ludicrous price then discounting to less than half that.
They ought to combine Live services and Map update and charge around £30 yearly "device update" charge.
Or provide the device free and charge for usage as mobile phone providers "giving" phones away and charging monthly contract by TT would then want £45 per month!
