What do you see as the benefit of running CamerAlert with offline maps? How much are the visuals contributing to the value you are getting out of it?
For many years, I've been using PocketGPSWorld cameras on my ancient TomTom GO (Classic). On that, the camera position is shown on the map, so you can see - particularly with mobiles - whether the camera is on a bridge, or in a layby, or whatever. Simply being told there's a camera X yards ahead isn't quite the same!
I'd like to pension off my 10+ year-old TomTom and use my phone with a navigation app plus CamAlert instead. I'm currently evaluating 'Here' (Beta) - which gives the option of on-line maps which consume mobile data or of downloading the maps and storing them on the device for offline use. I prefer the latter - particularly since they can be stored on a micro-SD card, and since PAYG mobile data is relatively expensive (and I don't want a contract).
I'm using CamAlert's "On startup, also run . ." feature to fire up 'Here' every time it starts. This works pretty well. But what I would REALLY like would be for CamAlert to be able to show the camera position on Here's map.
I guess that's too much to ask for?! _________________ Roger

I have just done a quick search on various web pages and forums about adding 3rd party POI's (i.e. Safety Cameras) to HERE maps. It looks like this feature is not available.
If I have got this wrong, try downloading the relevant POI's from here as usual and loading them into the app. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

No, I wasn't suggesting that. I'm pretty sure that Here doesn't support third party POIs and - in any case - using the camera database on a TomTom relies on a lot of TomTom's built-in functionality, which Here certainly doesn't have.
I'm quite happy to use CamAlert alongside Here - but was suggesting that slightly more integration between the two apps would be nice, allowing CamAlert to superimpose a camera icon at the appropriate position on Here's map.
Like I said, probably too much to ask! _________________ Roger
