2360LT as per the review title. It's very new, we were the first to get hold of this model.

Thanks gatorguy and Darren. I've downloaded the manual and quick start guides and got stuck in.

I think it may be time to retire my TT 940 and this looks a good candidate. I see a few places claiming to have stock but no mention of the LMT version. Is this a separate model or does one upgrade it to the lifetime map guarantee after purchase?

TIA

Done a bit more research. Unfortunately, the 2360 does not yet show up on the Garmin UK website except in a press release. However, I've found that the 3790t is now available for about £225 to £230 and for £262 with the lifetime maps. As I imagine the 3790 is meant to be a better spec, are there any disadvantages in getting the 3790 over the 2360?

TIA

Nope, we have the 3790 and if anything it's even better.

Thanks, Darren. One concern with the 3790 is MaFt says in his review that the speaker in the unit itself is quiet although the speaker in the cradle is much better. As I would prefer to use a Brodit cradle to attach to my vent, how poor is the sound on the 3790 in normal use?

The other disappointing feature is that the custom cursor you made for my TomTom in 2008 will not work on a Garmin. That is right, isn't it? Crying or Very sad

Mmm, so that's why the 3790T got a lower score? So lower score is now better then!

Reviews are subjective. I didn't review the 3790 and so my scoring of the unit reviewed here cannot be directly compared.

But, when I compared, the 3790 has a higher screen resolution, 3D terrain mapping, 3D buildings and a few more bells'n'whistles.

But of course it is more expensive. A potential buyer would need to read the full review in order to draw a conclusion, not just the scores out of ten.

You would be better advised to separate the Garmin cradle from it's window mount (they come apart easily) and then buy Brodit's Garmin ball mount which can be attached to whichever mounting solution you wish to use.

Correct.

You can create your own custom vehicle icons for Garmin's. This thread has instructions and examples:

Indeed but it's not an easy process and requires a ridiculous number of images taken at varying angles if you want the 3D effect.

Quite why Garmin bothered to do this defeats me. It's hardly worth the bother.

Agreed. I haven't been bored enough yet to even consider doing such. I didn't think it was a Garmin release tho, instead something a few users figured out on their own. It's been so long since I first looked at it I can't remember for sure.

I meant I couldn't see why they made the animated cursor at all. It adds little, the animation is so light as to be rather pointless and it makes creating them so much more difficult.

The software to deconstruct/reconstruct is third party but requires 72 separate images.

Life is too short to be doing that Smile
