Presumably, existing routes are not wiped clean by the upgrade.....?!

I've e-mailed SatMap about this clock issue and will report back. I do feel that if the clock was kept running when the device was turned off it would reacquire a fix very much faster. Let's hope it does have a realtime clock to make this achievable!

Just been checking adverts for SatMap and it is clearly advertised by SatMap as having:

Full GPS functionality (real time clock, logging waypoints, time etc)

So making the clock work would seem a necessity for the unit to work as described.

I had a few issues with the clock a couple of weeks after buying it.....it was about 7 hours out on one occasion....the best thing to do is not start trying to chase the correct time by using the offset function....keep the offset as it should be and the time corrects itself during the ride.

Well, I have never seen a problem with the Active 10's time, once a lock has been achieved. This through software versions 1.03, 1.16 and now 1.2 (serial number 700296).

Agreed, but if it has a real time clock as it is advertised as having, it should know the time the moment it is turned on (unless the battery has run down or been removed.)

Other GPS's (eg Garmin) remember the time so do not waste valuable minutes obtaining it so that they can get on immediately getting a position fix. These GPS's do take a while to get their initial fix (like the SatMap) but on subsequent startups they get a fix much quicker unless they have moved a considerable distance since last used. The SatMap seems to start from scratch every time even if it was last used just a second ago. Why does its real time clock fail to remember the time!?

This is particularly inconvenient of you accidentally turn it off instead of pressing the brightness button (easy to do.) You then have to wait a pretty long while for it to get going again. If it remembered the time the delay would be minimal.

Not sure whether this means anything, but I've just altered one of the 4 boxes for the first time to show the time, and it is exactly as per the PC....(is that where it came from, as the USB cable is plugged in ?). But, it has yet to lock on as I'm deep indoors.

ps Just checked 'Power Offset'...and it says 'No time offset.'

Oddly, I'd left mine plugged in the USB for a while and when I came back it now shows the correct time! Whether it's got that from the PC or a satellite I don't know.

However I unplugged it, turned it off and back on again right away. The time had shot up an hour to 23:30.

Then I turned it off and on again. The time was now showing as 00:31. It had jumped another hour.

Predictably now, turned it off an on once more. Another hour jump to 01:33.

Looks like a software issue (it's on v1.20).

My time offset is Plus 1 hour.

I've upgraded to v1.200 and my unit does the same thing - i.e. advance the time by 1 hour every time the unit is powered-on.

After a bit more tinkering-around, it appears that this issue corrects itself *if* (and only if) the unit takes more than a few seconds to re-acquire satellites on power-up. In practice, this would be if the unit has moved a significant distance since it was last powered on, or if a significant length of time has passed since it was last powered on. In either of these cases, the incorrect, shifted time is displayed until satellite lock is reacquired, then the clock display jumps back to the correct time.

However, if the unit is powered off only briefly, then turned back on, satellite acquisition is near-instantaneous, and the clock does *NOT* correct itself. In this case, I've had some success by disconnecting the LiPol battery for 60 seconds before reconnecting and powering up. This seems to delay satellite reacquisition by just long enough to cause the clock to be corrected.

Satmap really must come up with a fix for this quickly - it has the potential to mislead users in a navigation setting, and that could be dangerous.

Indeed it could be very dangerous. Glad I'm not the only one to have this though. If SatMap cannot get this fixed this week they need to make an ealier release available for download as an interim measure.
