Come on, get real. VGA devices have to paint four times as much screen area as QVGA devices. And then you turn the screen to landscape which requires programmatic rotating of each single frame. Of course it's slower!
Get that device a 1.2GHz processor and you'll have a fast display again. _________________ Lutz

So do you think there will be NO solution to the slow update in landscape mode? That's a bit of a shame if so. As it stands I don't need a mount at the moment, but I might just have to get one so I can mount my jasjar in portrait mode. |

That may partly answer things but as the OS has native support for landscape there should be no need for TomTom to programmatically rotate the screen, they could have chosen to let the OS do this.
Why not program TomTom to check for an OS that is landscape aware and if it is let the OS handle rotation? _________________ Darren Griffin |

What are the changes for the Palm version? I couldn't find release notes or a change log. _________________ The greatest prison is the human mind |

Shame there's no real support for VGA. Compass is still tiny _________________ Everywhere and nowhere

There is nothing OzVGA cannot fix. BUT you are responsible for your own eye sight... It's really tiny. _________________ Lutz

I don't like the TomTom quick start hogging my Today screen. I can remove it from the Today screen in Settings/Today/Item, but how can I uninstall it altogether?
Is it the "TomTom TomTom" application?

That's a fair point, the exec fully supports the 2 formats due to the 'flippy' nature of the screen. Like you say though it's totally useable, It's just seeing how good it looks in portrait makes me crave more! :D |

NO. that's the empty TomTom folder on the storage card.
You can only prevent the Today plugin from installing by manually extracting the files from the CAB.
However it may not be worth the effort. Once you unselect TomTom from teh Today menu it's no longer hogging anything. _________________ Lutz

Having a flippy screen doesn't mean anything. LCD pixels come in triplets (red, green, blue) and they do that in one orientation. This happens to be the shorter side (the x axis in Portrait) - you can take a very good magnifying glass or microscope and verify that.
By the way this is also the reason why ClearType is crappier in Landscape mode - because ClearType is based on sub-pixels.
So even if your PDA comes with a "landscape" screen it will still be hardwired as Portrait, and the operating system or your application will have to do the rotation.
Again, this is a hardware based issue, and it could only be fixed with hardware - a faster processor or a graphics accelerator. _________________ Lutz

Will the customised POI warning sounds still work if I install the Navigator 5.2 update on my PPC ?
If they don't should I use the same data.chk file after the update ? |

hmmmm.... whole lot of weirdness going on here
downloaded the ZIP file version and found I had to add the .zip extension to the downloaded file
then tried installing it, all seemed to go fine, but the version number hasn't changed...
anyone ?? _________________ SW

Well, I have downloaded the update. However I will wait before installing it to see if anyone else finds some bugs. I currently have the first release of 5 'working' on my h4150 and if none of the issues I have have been fixed then I don't think I will actually upgrade.
I look forward to seeing the proper changelog.

hmmmm... again
just trying to install the .exe version and it's telling me "TomTom TomTom" is already installed
not sure if the .zip upgrade asked the same, but seems odd to me...
ahhhhhhhh !!
just realised, the buttons are set to start TomTom, I just clicked on the TomTom link on the today screen and the new version started up.
so it doesn't overwrite version 5.1 and doesn't save your settings... how stupid is that ??? _________________ SW
