The fact that a man has installed his own DIY speed camera outside his house has not best pleased his local council.
Antony Cull, 27, painted a kitchen cupboard yellow and positioned it on a pre-existing utilities pole.
Shrewton, Wiltshire resident, Cull erected the camera following the death of his cat after it was run over.
He claims his fake speed camera has the effect of drivers slamming on their brakes when they see it.
I'm sure there are those who would argue that something that makes you slam on your brakes is not the safest thing in the world.
That said, local Councillor Ian West commented: "Although it’s probably not what authorities want to see it's very effective at slowing traffic down and that’s what people are clearly for."
Wiltshire Council claims the "camera" is on council-owned land, making its positioning illegal, but Cull claims it is on his property.
Wiltshire Police have confirmed that the placing of dummy speed cameras is legal if on a resident’s property.

If you are talking about a real speed camera, what would you do with the resulting information? |

I suspect the cost of a real speed camera would be somewhat more than the amount you'd save on a year's subscription! _________________ Anita
