TomTom today announced a new SmartPhone Holder for the car. It is not just a holder, but a complete Hands Free Car Kit. Coming in two formats, one for the iPhone and one for SmartPhones with micro USB power connectors, the holder is priced at £79.95.

Unlike the previous TomTom holder this one is now adjustable and will accommodate the iPhone with or without a case. Similarly for Android phones there is an adjustable gripper that can hold the device along the width or length as required. This makes it very flexible for a large number of devices.

The holder features a 2 watt speaker for both hands free calls and navigation (or other application) audio. It also allows the connection of 2 phones via Bluetooth and allows hands free dialling using voice recognition.

The Full TomTom press release follows:

London, 31 July 2012 – TomTom today launches the TomTom Hands Free Car Kit for smartphones with the highest quality audio for loud, clear hands-free calling and navigation. The new Car Kit features an advanced noise and echo cancellation system, which dramatically reduces background noise for the caller and removes ambient noise for the driver.

New mounting options make smartphone use on the move safer and more convenient. The newly designed Car Kit has an adjustable grip to fit any smartphone with or without its cover. An extendable microphone can be clipped to the sun visor to ensure conversations are louder and clearer.

“The new Car Kit has been designed for safety and convenience,” said Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director at TomTom. “With fantastic audio quality and new mounting options, we are making it easier and safer for drivers to make calls and use navigation applications on the move. With advanced new features, our aim is to help drivers keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road.”

The TomTom Hands Free Car Kit comes in two versions to support iPhone and micro USB compatible smartphones such as Android phones. Two iPhones and/or smartphones can automatically pair simultaneously. When connected via Bluetooth®, voice recognition functionality can be activated - enabling drivers to navigate and dial without taking their hands off the wheel.

Pricing and Availability
The TomTom Hands-Free Car Kit for iPhone or Smartphone is available in selected retail stores and from www.tomtom.com\smartphone priced £79.95.

The TomTom Hands-Free Car Kit for iPhone with Western EU navigation app is priced at £129.95

The hands-free car kit offers drivers:
- Sound boost – An in-built 2 watt speaker means that drivers can hear hands-free calls and navigation instructions loud and clear.
- Extendable microphone – The microphone can be brought closer to the driver for clearer conversations.
- Noise and echo cancellation – Cancels out background noise so drivers can have even clearer conversations.
- Dual phone connection – Connects two phones simultaneously.
- Fast charging – Fast charges the driver’s phone on the go.
- Dual mounting system – Drivers can choose to mount their device on the dashboard or the windscreen. It includes a self-adhesive disc that allows use of the suction mount on the dash or centre console.

- Easy-reach answer and reject buttons – Answer and reject calls, even when the phone isn’t mounted

Ahhh explains why the old mounts where being sold off at the weekend for £25, it does seem a little strange that TomTom have released this now. I know it's only a rumour but the 'New iPhone' will have a new connector making this and the previous mounts useless.

Seems strange that they start to produce a "Smartphone Holder" when their smartphone app (Android) continues to be conspicuous by it's absence. Maybe they're going to drop Navigation in favour of plastic extrusions - I hope the holders don’t freeze up rendering your phone stuck, inextricably to the dashboard Laughing

Question So the new mounts don't have a built-in GPS... I thought that was the point of the TomTom mounts for better reception? Maybe that's no longer an issue these days.

I'll stick to my discreet exogear exomount thank you very much.
Oh, and my car has built-in hands-free (isn't hand-free standard like electric windows these days)?

Does anyone else think that the photo on this page looks like dangerous driving?
