Hi all, my new satmap active 10 looks great but the problem is when on the main screen which you use to navigate the map spins round like a top & never settles Confused This makes the device useless for the purpose I bought it for i.e. to know which direction I'm moving in on the map "trail up?"

Do I have a faulty unit or are they all like this? My Garmin is very stable in this mode.

If it is spinning whilst you are walking then I suspect that you need to adjust the speed at which the gps heading overrides the compass.

Unfortunately it does spin a little when stationery, less so if the compass is calibrated.

First of all, if you've not already done so - calibrate the compass, to do this, go to the compass screen then press the bottom left side button and follow the instructions. You will need to be outside with a gps fix.

Then go into settings menu, scroll down to GPS Setting and set "USE GPS COMPASS" to "1kph".

Then try it.

Hi Gibbo10, thanks for replying

The setting for GPS compass is 1kph by default so it's still like that, I've calibrated the compass to. The Active 10 seems to be very inaccurate as far as compass directions are concerned & it's nowhere near as accurate as my £5 Silva compass, was I maybe expecting too much from something costing £400?

I'm sorry to hear that you are so disappoined with your new satmap, I'd get in contact with the customer service dept via phone, they are usually very helpful. If the unit isn't behaving then something must be wrong with it. I've had mine for several years and been more than happy with it but I don't use the Compass very much at all.

I just have the gps map on trail up as I walk and don't have the spinning issue that you have described unless I'm stationery.
