iPad (non 3G) getting Bluetooth GPS working ?? (Jentro?)

Hi all,

Hope i'm on the right discussion here.

I have the iPad (WiFi only) and wanting to know if there is a way of using it as any kind of sat nav because it has a MUCH longer battery life than my iPhone and a much bigger screen.

I also have a Jentro Activepilot bluetooth GPS receiver and tried to link it up with my iPad, but, as expected, the iPad doesn't "see" it.

I wrote to some guy on ebay because he was selling a bluetooth gps on ebay for £29 and he claimed his would work with the non-3G iPad. Although he was a little sketchy because he said that i would have to download software to get the iPad to "see" his bluetooth GPS. He didn't know where i would get the software from, or what it was called ! Sad

So, basically my question is, can i get my Jentro Activepilot to work as a bluetooth GPS receiver with my non-3G iPad ?. Or, failing that is there any other way to get the non-3G iPad working as an accurate GPS receiver. I have already bought a UK & Ireland app from the app store for my iPhone 4 so if i could find a bt receiver which would work on the iPad then that would be excellent !

The only way you can get this to work is by Jailbreaking the iPad and then installing some software that will enable the functionality.

Jailbreaking is beyond the scope of our forum, and it's something that will need re-doing with every software update the Apple release.

The other option is one of the GPS receivers designed to plug into the sync connector such as this example.

Thanks Darren, i didn't think it was possible without jailbreaking (which i don't want to do), and the hardware is quite expensive. Think the iPad will continue to live in the house !
