|
|
This is probably an old, old topic that has been covered a thousand times. I've had a search and discovered that some enterprising members had made various adapters and mounts for the i3 over the years, but these are all gone, used up or the links go nowhere now.
However, I would like to clip the i3 to my motorcycle every now and then, and was wondering if there were any options still available?

I got mine last year from a Mr Gonzales, not sure if he frequents this forum any more.
Basically you need a 17mm ball mount (I believe it is 17mm).
He made one for my bicycle, which I then transferred to my motorbike.
Search for him and try a PM to him. He also used to sell them on Ebay, but also seems to have stopped.
If you have a windscreen, I seem to recall someone used that with a lanyard, just in case it came off.
This also exists http://www.mountguys.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=RAM-B-149Z-GA22&click=21 |

Unfortunately Mr Gonzales has shut up shop, and no longer makes the adapters. So I'm going to have to continue looking. Gonzales does say on his website that alternatives might be to get another suction cup mount and cut it up. He also suggested RAM Mounts, but I don't think they do much for the i3 now either. |

RAM do a specific i3 Mount linked above, Part Ni. RAM-B-149Z-GA22 with a U-Bolt attachment.
You can order these in the UK from GPSW. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I got an 18 mm ball from the above with M6 thread and Loctite'd it on to the thread.
Using "production" (sand paper) for rubbing down car paint work with care it took a short times to reduce the ball to a 17 mm tight fit with less smooth finish so the satnav does not swivel about or drop off. Long M6 thread just bolts in place of a fairing screen bolt.
I think the postage was more than the ball!

Is that a Nuvi 250?
If so does the Nuvi product line use the same mounting mechanisms and ball size as the good ol' i3? |

Oh! Well! I just had a look at the Knobs-uk site, they have 16mm balls and the next size up is 20mm. There isn't an 18mm ball. |

According to our invoices you are right, height is 18mm.
With the ball screwed to the M6 thread and put it in a batterry drill and took it down on the production paper. Its still works fine two years on! |

Yeah, sorry, Nuvi 250 (not widescreen).
The in-box windscreen mounts plus the additional friction mount fit either my i3 or my Nuvi 250.
On this basis, I reckon it should work.
Can you post back here if it does - think I might get one next year for holiday in France. |

Have faith, young Padouin
Website is back up at http://www.mounts.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
Only the black plastic balls this time, but with those you can make up whatever you need. |
