Yes, I'm one of the snail brigade, but I do ensure that I keep traffic flowing.
My wife came home today and told me that her boss has a program on his GPS that he uses when he is towing his caravan. He alos enters the height of his rig and the GPS plans the route so that he doesn't drive onto roads that would cause a problem.
For example, just been to the North Yorkshire Moors. Fantastic views but I did that the caravan over the top. That was real fun, didn't see anyone for hours then got funny looks of the locals.
I shall get her to ask her boss when she is back at work but I thought you guys might know of soomewhere to get one from.
I have a TOMTOM 700 |

There are POI files for low bridges, so you can be warned as you aproach one, but the TT doesn't have any way of creating a route to automatically avoid them all.
You can either just set up a "warn when near/only on route" for them so you get a warning as you get near, or, after you have set up a route, you could do a "find / POI / POI along route" for them (on the browse map page) , and look for any on the list with the straight-up green arrow icon. Then do a "recalculate route / avoid part of route" for each one, one at a time. |

The boss's kit isn't one of those where you pay per route is it?
A relative of mine is one of the dreaded caravaning brigade and he has this type and it does send him routes suitable for his van.
There's no screen just a voice from a box. |

Now, now, we're not as bad as that lot towing horse boxes...generally beaten up old Bedfords that have seen better days, (smoke, oil etc.,) ..but usually with a decent young popsy at the wheel ! |

Years ago caravan infestations used to annoy me a lot, but I don't see them much these days.
Just did a couple of 100 miles today and hardly any.
Are the owners all dying off? |

I shall be bombing up the M1 this weekend...supposed to be at the legal 50 mph, but my outfit likes 60/65 mph...so, a plea. Anybody in the middle lane who sees me coming, please move over, as I can't use the outside lane, and I don't want to be accused of holding anybody up !
ps Not quite a 'pensioner' , yet. |

The legal speed on the M1 is 60 mph!
With my caravan, I usually stay in the inside lane, particularly in France. Most lorries seem to keep to a pretty steady 56-57 mph, and at that speed you can make pretty good progress without the hassle of constantly changing lanes. In France I have been able to drive 100 miles without touching my cruise control!

Of course...sorry not thinking straight today....still suffering from a party after effects.
I still maintain that it's not until you tow that you actually realise the guys sitting happily in the centre lane , oblivious to all around....one area where I sympathise with coach and lorry drivers...very frustrating at times. |

Many Thanks for this information Gents, The other week went out with my rig and seemed to be overtaking quite a lot of traffic. when I looked at the speedo cruising along nicely at 85mph, slowed down though to a sedate 60 after that. |
