|
|
I'm new to this forum and need some help.
I have Tom Tom 5 installed on a Dell Axim X5. Each time I set the Home location and exit the Tom Tom application the information is not held. The same applies for Favourites.
It seems that one of the files that hold the custom data is not saving it upon exiting the application. Anybody have any ideas how I can fix this? Thnx |

The file in question is the .cfg file in the map folder.
It's attributes are set to Read Only. Everyone else who has the problem have copied the file to the PC, cleared the Read Only attribute in Properties and copied it back to the Map Folder.
Delete the Map Folder .cfg before you copy the new one back. _________________ Richard

I'm presuming that you have XP. If so you need to go to Tools > Folder Option > View and Untick the Option Hide Extensions for known File Types.
This will reveal file extensions, and you should be able to see it. _________________ Richard

Well I am having the same prob with it losing everything.
I have gone to my Great Britain map folder on the sd card and found the file
Great_Britain-Map.cfg
But mine is NOT set to read only?
Am I looking at the right file? as it seems to be the only .cfg one in that folder? |

Are you using the SD card? If so, is the Read Only switch (on the side) pushed towards the contacts? _________________ Richard

As you look at the front of the card (with the label on), the switch at the side is in the up position i.e towards the contacts.
Being new to SD cards, have trawled the net, I have found this image which seems to infer that if the switch is in the bottom position it is locked. Mine is in the opposite position to the one in the following link...

It's not that then. Check that the Folder isn't Read Only.
Because it does lose the data sometimes, delete the file (TT will create a new one), load say Home Location. Go into Explorer and copy the file to another location on the X5. This will be your quick backup if you should lose it again. If it's OK, try adding more and copying the file.
The usual practice is not to use Favourites, but to create a Favourites POI as this will always be on the SD card. _________________ Richard
