In general how do you guys rate the 510 in comparison to say the tom tom go or tom tom on a pda. I use tom tom on an IPAQ at present but like the look of the 510 and would pass the tom tom to my son to use.

It is so portable - that's my main like.
The Tom Tom is more user friendly I think, but just too bulky. Tom Tom has better software - especially so when the new version comes out. The sound on the Tom Tom is a zillion times better, though the 510 is useable.
If the Tom Tom were more portable - I would have that any day.
Just my opinion and I have owned both |

Thanks Denis, that seems to sum up what i thought, I like the look of the new tom tom but still dont like the size and shape of it, the screen also seems to be ver reflective. how do you rate the software in the Navman.

The software is fine, it gets you there with the usual very occasional blip caused by new roads etc - but all the units suffer from this and I really have no complaints. The screen is as reflective as the tom tom in use and the unit does not have a very good night mode - just seems too bright even when turned down - but just nit-picking. |

The use of the software is probably more difficult on the move when using the 510. You really need to use the stylus on the screen although the hard buttons are very useful. Putting in areas to avoid at the last minute really requires you to pull over and use the stylus, whereas the TTGo allows you to quickly tell the unit to avoid say, the next mile if there are traffic jams.
On the plus side, the 510 allows for much more choice in whether you use motorways or urban roads more or less, as well as sliding scales for quickest/shortest. This, along with its size and the ability to examine a 'next turn' screen were my two main reasons for choosing it over the TTGo. |

Thanks or the replies folks, I was going to hold back until I had gave the unit a reasonable chance but thought it was worth dropping a few comments. The size of the unit is excellent and just about perfect. The s/w is a little more difficult and I feel the tom tom s/w for the pocket PC is easier to use though the Navmans is probably more flexible. The front buttons are a big plus though the toggle button is a little tricky. Volume is not to bad though not as clear as the pocket pc. Screen clarity I have yet to decide on, the auto zoom I find a little annoying but again will give it time, so far it is up in the air on which I prefer. |

Thanks Simon, I have that sussed out now, overall I like the machine with a few reservations, however the new tom tom s/w will beat the pants off it unless Navman do some serious work or drop the price big time.
