Can I run the v3 software on an icn620? - at present I have v1. I would like to enter the speed cameras and search on postcode - will the v3 upgrade from navman for 20 quid allow me to do this?
I have read this can make it very slow - is this right?
Cheers!

SmartST v3 runs fine on the iCN620. I can't say that I have noticed it being particularly slow in use (not enough to bother me anyway!).

You don't get 3D map display, but you will be able to load your own POI's, including the speed camera database which loads just fine, if you follow the instructions here.

Not only can you run SmartSTv3 on your 620 but you get to upgrade at a special offer price.

V3 with UK maps OR V3 and Pan-Euro maps

Thanks, I would be stupid not to do this then?
Is there any downside?

I see I only get 1 region upgrade - what exactly is a region
e.g. Scotland
or e.g UK

Cheers

The British Isles counts as one region, I believe.

If you order the single region from Navman-store.com, you get maps which cover all of the UK and Ireland.

To be pedantic, if you order a single region, you can unlock any single region.

Regions include the British Isles, BeNeLux, the Nordic Countries, Iberia, Italy and "DACH" (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

Thanks for this I'll order today.

When I have loaded the POI's can I get the navman to give a warning when approaching one?
If it is just a small box on the map then this isn't a great help as you would have to watch the screen constantly to see if you were coming up to a camera. - dangerous!

Onthe assumption that the only functionality missing from the 620 is 3D, then you can get an audible warning for all of your custom POIs. Unfortunately it is the same warning for all categories, but at least it's a warning. You also get a visual warning on screen.

As well as 3D rendering being missing, the ability to set "avoid areas" is also missing. I'm not sure if any other features are disabled. I spent a fruitless couple of days asking Navman support how to enable 3D map display, but I don't think the frontline support guys are aware that it doesn't work on all units with v3 installed Embarassed The website isn't too clear about it either.

5 character postcode search is included and works OK, as do custom POIs, although the visual warning is quite understated, only being a line of text.

The biggest significant change from SmartST v1 is that the maps are now based on TeleAtlas data, rather than Navteq, but, on the whole, I found it a worthwhile upgrade for the cost.

It's probably best described as a chime, but it is enough to let you know that you are approaching a POI.

620 is missing the 3D map view and Avoid areas. I also remember reading somewhere that it has 50 favourites (the 630 has 200).

Theres a post earlier on the forum about how to change the warning chime to another sound. I find that even at relatively low volumes I notice the chime over my car radio. Something to do with how your brain filters important information Laughing
