The bottom line is my backup battery does not work !!! (it never has) what I have worked out is that my X6 has the ability to remember the last protocol it was setup with, this only seems to be able to be changed via the PC using a PCMCIA --> CF converter and the supplierd sirf program, ie at the moment I have it set to nmea v2 4800, and although it supports other speeds, if I try to select anything else in tomtom it does not work !! what im hoping is that I have missed some setting somewhere to enable the backup battery !!!! does anyone know !!!

if the backup battery is dead then it will always fall back to the factory setting (which may be NMEA 4800)

Different from BT receivers your type (CF) is not autosensing the speed. You have to set it explicitly, and then TomTom must use that. So if you use your setup program to change the receiver to 38400 then you must also set TomTom to that (but not the other way round)

Now - it DOES work at NMEA 4800, doesn't it? Why bother then? Itchy fingers? Go do something useful. ;-) and leave the receiver alone. NMEA 4800 is always good enough.
