Apologies if all this has been asked in the past. If so would somebody kindly publish links to the threads.
What is the max number of POI categories and does that include the pre-installed POI's?
What, if any, is the max number of POI's in all categories?
Can the pre-installed POI's be edited/deleted? Are they in the file "POI.DAT? Can this be edited - safely? Can it be deleted - safely?
What is the maximum number of "Favourites"?
Is there a library source of POI type .bmp files? Can Windows icons be used for this purpose?
Why bother with full postcode POI's when the TomTom offers partial post codes and then specific addresses?
You might guess, I'm a beginner - with the TomTom!! :D |

They certainly cannot be edited - for licensing reasons - they come from TeleAtlas, not from TomTom.
Can the POI.DAT file be deleted? Good question. You'll have to try that. Make a backup of the file, then delete it and see if the GO starts. If not, we could try to replace the POI.DAT with a much smallerr sibling from another map....
The real question is if this gives any benefits or not.
Anyhow, good idea! _________________ Lutz

Deleting/renaming the POI.DAT file seems to work just fine - TomTom duly informs there are no POI installed, and then happily continues to run. So the next question is - is that any good, performance-wise. _________________ Lutz

I believe there is a hard limit on the number of add-on POI categories. Unless I'm misremembering, it's 128 for TomTom Navigator 3 on the Pocket PC, and I believe there's a similar (possibly lower) limit for the GO.
The limit does not include the built in POIs - which, as Lutz says, cannot be edited, but apparently can be deleted as one item. You cannot edit the built in POIs.
There are some restrictions on which .bmp files work. They are Windows Bitmap files - I believe the usual recommendation is go to for 8 bit palleted, and the size should be 22 by 22 pixels. You can experiment with .bmp files from your PC.

Thanks.
So, any problems with those POI are better advised to direct to TeleAtlas?
BTW Do you think that mapping feedback is best sent direct to TeleAtlas via their web page or to Tom Tom? |
