Hi,

Hopefully someone out there can help me.

I have just recently purchased my first PDA (a nearly new XDA2).
I have bought separately a wired TT3 (also nearly new from ebay).

I am running with no sim card or memory card.

I have loaded the software and it runs fine without connecting to the GPS. When I connect it, it takes ages to recognise the signal and then keeps freezing within a minute or two.

Not sure what info anyone needs to help me:
ROM 1.03.00
Radio 1.05.12
Protocol 1337.12

Hopefully it is something I am doing or the set up.

Please help. My wife was convinced it was a waste of money before I bought it. She is now even more convinced!

Many Thanks

What version of the TomTom GPS driver are you using?

I have an XDAII and it works perfectly with TTN3 so don't give iup just yet!

Can you tell me the following:

1. Is this an XDA or XDAII as the ROM version you have supplied is very old. The latest O2 Rom is 1.60.00 with 1.72 due Monday.
2. What Version of the TTN3 App and GPS driver are you using.
3. Have you disabled 'Receive all incoming beams'? (Start | Settings | Connections - Beam) if not you should do so when using a GPS on COM1.

Thanks for your offers of help.

It is definately a XDA2

I have turned the beam off.

Just found an upgrade to TT3 3.07 and installed (not sure if I should have!)

The ROM is 1.03.00 USA (even though I am in UK?). How do I go about updating this?

No idea what GPS drivers I have. Where do I look for these, what level should they be and if appropriate how can I upgrade?

Thanks a million.

For the GPS driver version, go to Start > Settings > System > GPS

Under Settings/System I do not have anything called GPS.

Perhaps this is my problem?

What do I need to do?

The latest UK ROM Update can be found here. A new ROM Update (v1.72) is due 1st Nov and as applying them wipes the PDA clean it may be best to wait for that one rather than applying 1.60 Smile

Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been so busy out and about playing with the now working tomtom.

It was the GPS download which did the trick.

Do I need to worry about the ROM upgrade as it appears to be working? Is there anything else I would gain?

I also have 2 other quick questions...

1. When using the XDA in the car with tomtom, the backlight goes off after 5 minutes. I cannot see how to chnage this as my backlight options on battery is 5 mins and external is 10 mins. I do have it plugged into the cigarette lighter.

2. Trying to be clever I have downloaded the Speed Camera Database. I have successfully uploaded them and they show up on the map. How do I get the voice activation to work on these to give me warnings?

Thanks for all your help so far and again in anticipation.

To stop the backlight from turning off, in the GPS Driver move the Zzz slider to the right.

XDAII ROM v1.72 was released Monday and provides some worthwhile bg fixes and enhancements to the Bluetooth stack. I would apply it. Get it here.

To get alerts when you approach POIs you need a POI utility, I reccomend CheckPOInt which is a free download. See here.

I have checked and the slider is all the way to the right.

Any other ideas as it is still doing it.

The latest (and last) ROM update for the XDAII, v1.72 is not WM2003SE. It does however contain some useful bug fixes and bluetooth improvements.

There is also a voice dial and fax client add-on download that will only install if you have v1.72. Voice Dial might be useful (as might Fax services) for you Alex?

Change the backlight setting for External Power and remove the tick for 'Turn off backlight if device is not used for X minutes'.

Darren,
Sorry for being such a dimwit...
When I go to Settings/Backlight/External, there isn't a box I can uncheck. The only option I have is the pull down menu giving me the amount of time before backlight is turned off if device is not being used.
Is thre something else I have to do to get that option?
