EMTAC GPS AND NAVIGON 4 PROBLEM

I am now the proud owner of Navigon 4 after being tucked up by Kane Gear. I did have destinator from them but was advised new maps not forthcoming and persuaded to purchase navigon 4 at a greatly reduced price (not the case not happy).
Anyway after installing Navigon 4 on my ipaq 1940 cant seem to get it to recognise my emtac gps. Does anybody out there have the same set up. I was told by kane that the emtac is compatible with navigon and there should be no probs.

It will work fine.

Make sure you have Navigon 4 configured as OTHER RECEIVER, the COM port that your Bluetooth uses (e.g. COM8 on a 2210 iPAQ) and the baud rate 4800.

If it's not seeing the GPS for some reason or you have multiple BT devices configured, exit out of NAVIGON, goto the BT Manager, tap and hold the icon for the EMTAC, and click CONNECT. Once connected, run Navigon and you should be able to see it.

It still wont recognise it with settings as you describe.it shows as an active connection but navigon still cant find it. I have noticed that on paired devices theemtac has a blue question mark over it........any ideas

Ok, best way is to fault find it to make sure which port setting and baud rate it's using. Follow this document:-

It's possible that your Emtac isn't on COM8 (but another port) and perhaps not on 4800 baud but on a different baud rate. It's trial and error, but WinFast will give you a better indication straight away using the DEVELOPMENT VIEW if it's connected and data is streaming down the screen.

Once you have the correct COM port and BAUD rate then use this in Navigon. It's possible that the GPS may be in SiRF mode, but I doubt it.

Before i give it a try on the reverse of my gps there is a sticker that states waas + sirf. Could this be the problem as i believe navigon 4 needs to connect through nmea.

The GPS really shouldn't be in SiRF mode anyway because 99% of all apps require NMEA, so if it's in SiRF it needs to be switched to NMEA 4800 by going to the NMEA tab in WinFast Navigator, changing the baud to 4800 and then tapping OK.

Sorry to be a pain in the arse. ive tried what you said, i changed the baud rate to 4800 in the nmea setting tapped ok but it just freezes and nothing happens..............im pulling out what little hair i have left out. kane have not been any help...........any ideas. Sad

You should see some data appear in the development screen, if you're not seeing any, attempt a factory fix and let the GPS stay outside for 15-20 mins and see if you are getting data on the development screen in the first minute or so. If you're not, then I'd say there's something faulty with the GPS or they've locked it specifically to a baud rate.

Try NMEA 38400 or 57600 in the command screen and tap OK and see if this has any effect.

Also try switching to SiRF tab and use 57600 or 19200 and see if you get any data back.

You should see something in the development screen.

Me too not happy with kane, but new software working OK.
Try these settings
Type of receiver: Other receiver
Com-port: COM:8
Baud: 57600

I have the same problem with emtac crux II BT and navigon 4.2. No connection to navigon software. Fugawi 3.0 and Arcpad 6.03 are running. Gps sentences are RMC and GGA. I think Navigon is not interested to solve the Problem Evil or Very Mad

No suport for receivers from other campanies.

I managed to sort my problem out by using crux view.
instal it on your pda and change the baud rate to 4800 and com 8 it will the ask if you want to switch protocol to nmea. Works fine then but each time i dont use it for a while i have to run crux view again.
