You can only flash your headlights to alert other drivers to your presence. In which case:
Copper: You were flashing your lights to alert other drivers of the speed camera van
Driver: No I wasn't
Copper: You were, I saw you flash your lights
Driver: I was flashing them to let them know that *I* was there (because that is the only reason you should flash your lights)
Copper: No, you flashed your lights to warn them of the camera van
Driver: No, I was letting them know *I* was there, not you
Copper: Well, why would you do that?!
Driver: Because I have the nicest car and I need to let people know I am there so they can see it
Copper: .... |

No idea, I remember a UK driver tooling around in a Yank replica plod car and he got booked and told to fix it.
That was a few decades ago. _________________ Satnav:

This guy's been driving round Keynsham for years and I'm sure he must have been noticed by the police because we've got a police station - a new one even, and two or three PCSOs. I recall reading about ancient times when somebody had a blue light on top of his car, was stopped by the local bobby and told if he didn't remove it there and then, the bobby would do it with a hammer he happened to have in his plod car. That was in the days when Barnoldswick was in Yorkshire and was pronounced Barlick. Goes to show - not all changes are good. _________________ Dennis

Very strange, I know you're allowed to drive around in veteran police cars but I understood any blue lights have to be covered, as it's an offence otherwise, and I'd have though the Police on the side would be illegal too
