I keep seeing lots of mention of so called "vulture" cameras (http://bit.ly/2MGvasM) . what exactly are they? All I see in articles are led squares about 20 feet away from existing cameras. So are they separate cameras or do they work with existing cameras? I also notice they are grey, if independent cameras, shouldn't they be yellow? Remember all the grief Highways were given when Hadecs3 came out and they were grey? They all had to be made yellow, is this likely to be an issue with these new ones? Finally, will they be put on the database and will they just be another fixed camera? If they are only feet away from existing installations, that is potentially a lot of notifications going on. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

According to the blurb they are to catch drivers on mobile phones and occupants not wearing seat belts.
I don't know whether, not being speed cameras, they have to be yellow.
In London we have Low Emission Zone (LEZ) cameras and they have never been yellow. _________________ DashCam:

Speed cameras don't HAVE to be yellow to be legal, that's why Hadecs3 came out grey. They were changed when protests used the argument (urban myth put forward by government) that cameras should be to slow people down, not catch them for cash.
Surely LEZ cameras are to catch people, not warn them not to E horrible stuff? _________________ Dennis

LEZ just compares each registration No with the DVLA database and charges if the vehicle isn't compliant. _________________ DashCam:

There are a lot of articles out there, all saying the same sort of thing about seatbelts and eating, but some are stating they are for speed as well: http://bit.ly/2NfIWHY . Although this article says they are replacements for sensors which were previously under the road? _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

All the Specs cameras round me have something similar mounted a few yards ahead of the yellow Specs (as in the Sun photo)
I did get a closeup shot of one set near the Westway flyover and looking closer they looked like banks of LED lights (unlit) and I assumed they were just to help identify number plates in the dark. I've seen flashes on the M25 for speeders but unlike Gatso's the SafeZone Specs don't seem to have any built in lights.
I don't think they are cameras but I'm often wrong _________________ DashCam:

Yes. Just more of the rubbish on the internet which gets repeated so often that people believe it must be true, combined with lazy journalism. _________________ Paul |

I quite like the fact that they can "– Produces images in visible darkness"
What the hell is visible darkness. If it is visible, it's not in darkness. You cannot see darkness or light, only the effects of light. I suppose darkness can be considered to be negative light. |

He's got it wrong again. There's actually a missing space which shouldn't be there, the true wording is INVISIBLE darkness. Simples. _________________ Dennis
