On the Garmin Drivesmart 61 LMT-D can one control the size of custom POI symbols, our eyes are not so good as they were and we would like them bigger.

I do not think that there is a way to instruct the Garmin to magnify the size of the icon.
What you need to do is replace the .bmp for a larger sized one. If you're using POIs from your TomTom then your POI icons will probably be 24x24 (or 22x22 if from a very old TomTom) and you need to make the icon 44x44.
If you're using Windows then you can use MS Paint to enlarge the .bmp files.

There are 44x44 icons in Kremmen's CSV to GPX converter download. |

M, I think that the OP is working on non speed camera POIs as one of his questions was about ASDA.
I may be (and frequently am) wrong though!

I also think he's talking about Garmin pre-installed POIs in which case they are what they are _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Yep. I've asked in one of his other posts
Pity he didn't just post once with the four questions. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I must say, on my 2699 the 44x44 icons only look the actual size of the 24x24 on the 2599.
As you say, they are what they are. _________________ Satnav:

Sorry guys about the four posts rather than one with several subjects but I have found in the past on other fora that multi subject questions tend for some of the questions to be missed completely. Speed cameras are of little interest to me as I tend to drive within the limits anyway. Also, if I failed to say so, they are not the Garmin preinstalled ones, they are other third party downloads. Sorry, also, about the late reply but I have been away for a few days.
I have not tried enlarging the bitmaps yet as I am liable to mess up PM and I can not find Microsoft Paint on my system so may have to download it, but in any case I have discovered what is, if I am right, a more serious problem with them.
This problem is that they only show on the screen when I enter:- Custom POIs/ All Categories... and there they all are (except ASDA and ASDA petrol though the symbols are all there in my folder from which I do the install). However, if I set a destination they ALL disappear from the screen. This is not what I want and not what my TomTom used to do. As soon as the TomTom was turned on, the symbols of any nearby POI showed on the screen and we then knew what was about as we went along. I hope I am doing something wrong. |

Hi harrytherid,
Like you, I have recently moved from TomTom to Garmin. After using TomTom products for around 14 years, I'm finding the transition to Garmin slow but absolutely necessary as TomTom has shown zero regard for any of their customers (lack of development of iOS GO Mobile pp, unable to use custom POIs, missing features in newer products, etc).

I've found that custom POIs will not show on a map screen. Unless you search for a particular POI and it should show its position on the map when you ask for information.
When you're driving around, you should see your custom POIs in the navigation screen.

Check that in Settings, Map & Layers, Map Layers, Up ahead is turned on. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Wonderful, thanks Sussamb. That seems to have cracked it. I just hope I don't keep forgetting. Age is an invidious thing.
Now I just have to get the sizes cracked. Would not mind shrinking the Garmin ones a little. Can that be done?
Kindest regards Harry |

Oh dear, this really is not any good at all or I am doing something wrong. I have set "Map and Vehicle" (I can find no "Map and Layers" on my instrument), then "Map Layers" then ticked "Up Ahead Places" (I can find no "Up Ahead" on my instrument) then "Save".
Then "Where to", "Custom POIs" "All Categories" then hit bottom tab and there they all are (except ASDA which I have resaved several times and also resized ((oh yes I have mastered that)) but no sign of it or its fuel station) except that when I hit "Go" they have ALL disappeared. Aaargh, what am I doing wrong.
BTW:- ASDA is there on the map, resized, when I do "Where to", "Custom POIs" "ASDA" but as soon as I hit the "Go" button it disappears. Oh and Thanks sussamb, I shall just have to live with the too large Garmin symbols.
Kind regards Harry |
