CA will work fine - I have used up my 10GB of data allowance and only the one phone running CA (Nexus 6 - Original not P - Running Stock Rom) and it works fine and the reason why.....
It uses GPS positioning to determine what cameras are ahead, not an actual map, so if you don't want to view the map or have another satnav app that runs in the foreground with the full map available offline then it will work.
I have no other device available while driving so can't tether to another phone and when get in car I actually turn wifi off
I should also mention in regards to the OP that a lot of software developers are having issues with apps and certain devices running Android 6 and they are waiting for Google for fixes, etc.
Also if you deny some permissions for apps this can stop them functioning and uninstalling/reinstalling won't fix - you need to then go into the permissions settings and modify the permissions for the app to get them working again. |

Hi all
Good news at last. I made the following tests today in response to all the help I have had over the last few days on this thread.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 with a de activated sim (No service and no data)
Environment. In a main street in a town where there are two fixed cameras and a mobile camera zone within 2 miles on either side between several roundabouts.
Drove up and down the road between roundabouts to encompass all the cameras
CamerAlert set up: in Advanced setup both "Use alternative GPS" and "Use Network location ticked".
Test 1. Wi-Fi ON, Location ON: CamerAlert reported all cameras
Test 2: Wi Fi OFF.Location ON CamerAlert reported all cameras
Test 3. WiFi OFF. Location OFF CamerAlert failed to report any cameras
Test 4 WiFii OFF Location ON Took a long time to begin to report cameras again
Test 5 WiFi ON Location ON CamerAlert reported cameras after a short time.
Personal conclusion: As the S4 will be used only for CamerAlert and can keep it charged in the car, not need to worry about battery drain, so for me keep WiFi ON and Location ON. Do not need a map as the car has Sat Nav built in.
Happy to re install my subscription to Pocket GPS on the strength of these findings (about 10 days left of old subscription)
Happy Bunny JohnC |

Sony did an OTA upgrade on the phone today, hasn't changed the number of the android system, still 6, but as the upgrade was reasonably large I tried reinstalling cameralert again .. made no difference .. still crashed. Crash log resubmitted just in case there is something useful contained therein !! |

For the time being, I have found a simple answer........Tom Tom safety cameras!!
Smooth running app, runs in the background with a "floating" current speed/speed limit icon and works a treat with Xperia Z5 Compact running Android 6.
It also appears to have most, if not all of the "safety" camera data (sites/speed limits etc) correct.

I'm unfortunately having the same problem with my Xperia Z5 since it upgraded to Marshmallow 6.0 on EE. Crashes when I open the app. Tried reinstall and restarts but not tried a factory reset. |

Not sure how running a totally different app helps to solve the problem of a purchased app not working ??
The problem is to SOLVE the reason CamerAlert does not work on the xperia not to junk it..... your solution is a bit like buying a new car when a bulb blows....... |

Just bought an HTC One M9, which runs Marshmallow 6.0.
As soon as you click on the Icon, the app just crashes.
I've submitted to crash dump for investigation. _________________ Tomtom GO550 Live 9.430 UK & Ireland 895.4438

I'm running android 6.0.1 on a Sony Xperia Z3 compact and CamerAlert is running fine in the background with CoPilot in front.
I've been testing it over the last few days after all the problems I've seen reported on this site and not found any problems.
What might help is I checked and although I've transferred CoPilot maps onto my SD card I've not moved anything from CamerAlert onto the SD, I've kept it internal.
Worth a try if CamerAlert's not working _________________ HUAWEI P30 Pro (new edition) with Speedtrap Alert & alcatel1 for SatNav

Well it looks like my tenure with PocketGPSWorld is about to end .. There is little point in renewing my subscription for an app that simply does not work.
Shame that 11 years on there seems to be little interest from the powers that be to sort this problem with their software out.

Did you check the location of the program in your phone as per my suggestion above. ? _________________ HUAWEI P30 Pro (new edition) with Speedtrap Alert & alcatel1 for SatNav

I now have CamerAlert working on Android Marshmallow on an HTC One M9.
My SD Card is formatted as Internal Storage, so the O/S sees the card as part of the internal memory. Looks like CamerAlert is installed by default onto the Sd Card, which stops it from running.
To fix the problem, I went into Settings -- Apps -- CamerAlert then clicked on the Storage line.
This brings up a screen with a Change button, which when clicked gives you the option to select Internal Storage / "SD Card Name".
Select Internal Storage and the app is moved from the SD Card.
Open CamerAlert and all should be working as normal now.
Not sure if there is an update to CamerAlert whether it gets updated on Internal Storage or moved back to the SD Card.
Needs the programmer(s) to update the code to install on Internal Storage, rather than SD Card. _________________ Tomtom GO550 Live 9.430 UK & Ireland 895.4438
