I need advice on which handset to use and which software...... i am new to all this.
I want a handset that can be used for off road motorbiking
I want to record my tracks, most of which are not on any online maps.
When on new trips i want to be able to see all or at least select previous trips i have done to show those tracks on the map for orientation purposes as i explore new tracks.
I have used my mates garmin 62 several times with his tracks loaded on it. however it only lets me select one previous trip he has done and will not display all the tracks he has covered in the area over several seperate missions. Is that a handset issue or a software one and can i get what i want?
What are your recommendations??
Thanks |

Tracks can be made visible or not in track planner. You can therefore display as many as you wish on most Garmin handhelds.
You can also create 'map overlays' of tracks so you can see them. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

If the 62 is big enough for you then either that it its replacement the 64. If you'd like a bigger screen then you could look at the Oregon or Montana, but they are touchscreen models. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I'll check out those models thanks. One other question still not clear....
displaying many previous routes at one time.
I used a 62 last week for 4 day trio through mountains. my friend downloaded his routes for that area onto the gps. However I could only view one route at a time by selecting it in tracks.
I am not wanting to be navigated through previous routes bit simply use previous routes as a point of navigation. either following it or navigating from one to a another one along a track that isn't nesseccary on the map.
Make sense? |

Routes can only be displayed one at a time. This assumes you are talking about routes and not tracks _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I don't really know how to explain what I am trying to say, but on my Garmin 2599 (for cars) I have something ticked in the setting which shows a trace of ALL the places, routes and turns I've taken since I last ticked the reset button.
I know that isn't the feature you require, namely saving routes. but it would show you all your previous routes as one great snail trail.
However, I'm not sure what other Garmin devices this feature is available on.
Have you considered using a smart phone and gps/map app? _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

That's the nuvis trip log. A handheld will do that too but there is a limit to what can be stored, after that newest data overwrites oldest. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
