No there's no difference in the maps. If Express is stalling check that you have the required 13Gb of free space on your PC. If that isn't the issue then check your firewall, AV program or something like ghostery isn't blocking the download. Problems updating maps while frustrating for those it affects isn't the norm. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks, I will try again, without firewall & AV.
Any suggestion as to what the problem was with Maploader ? |

I'm not sure what you mean, do you mean MapUpdater? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Interesting, I just checked my version of GE - it was 3.2.27.0 despite the fact that it appeared to update itself to 4.08 when I updated my map. Maybe that was part of my problem. I have now successfully updated to 4.08.
I don't know whether there is s difference between what maps low end and higher end devices need. Older devices certainly need NT maps as against NTU and I blieve that a difference is that NT maps do not have lane guidance or junction view. I suppose it is possible that low end devices without those features might use NT maps but that would not lie easily with garmin's update claims which promise 4 updates a year. Nt maps are only updated twice a year AFAIK. |

Presumably your ISP package allows a 13Gb download?
Silly I know but some contracts are limited to 10Gb a month. Firewall and/or AV I would have guessed would have stopped it dead in it's tracks.
Do you have an aggressive power option set that is prematurely closing the connection?
Have you got the USB ports to not allow Windows to close them down to save power? You can check that via device manager then the bottom USB devices properties.
When it's downloading ignore the advice that you can walk away and keep wiggling the mouse to keep it all active. _________________ Satnav:

I think that you are a bit out in your 13GB With all my double downloading plus other downloads I only clocked up 11GB on that day and then another 1.79GB yeterday when I downloaded the NT map and it needed only part of the download. I gues that a full download of NTU files is a bit over 5GB and that is consistent with my experience over the last few years.

The difference between NT and NTU is their ability to show certain alphabets. All newer devices come with NTU maps, older ones with NT but the underlying map data is the same, indeed older units can use NTU maps. Note Garmin promise 'up to 4 updates a year', not '4 updates a year', so 2 updates still meets the criteria. NT maps certainly do have lane assist, junction view etc ... I have a 1490 that has NT maps and both of those. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way.

The actual Garmin statement says this for requirements:
•Windows Vista SP2 or newer, Microsoft .NET 4.5 (included)
•1024 x 768 display, USB port and 1 GB RAM
•High speed Internet access (Not for use with dial-up, mobile or satellite connections)
•May require up to 13 GB free disk space _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I was just trying to build a list of possibilities for you to work through even though some of them might be obvious.
Something is amiss with your setup or internet....or is it downloading OK and stalling when trying to apply the data to the unit? _________________ Satnav:

I stand corrected - but if older units can use NTU maps then why is it that MapInstall will only recognise NT maps and not NTU maps when an old device is connected - sorry, correction - when my 760 is connected? Both the NT and the NTU maps are in the same folder on my PC. |

Yes but do you have a lifetime subscription for the NT or NTU map? For your 760 it'll be the NT one. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

At last.
After the last "failed" I just tried again & it installed successfully and much quicker.
Having checked my device I can see I have NTU Maps.
Sorry, yes I did mean Mapupdater.
Still cannot update Express no matter how many times I try, gets to about 90% then fails. |

Try using the Microsoft FixIt Utility to completely uninstall Garmin Express. This software is third-party and not created by Garmin. The software is licensed and created by Microsoft.
1.Go to the web page: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/
2.Click the Run now button
3.Click Run in Internet Explorer or download then open MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.RNP.Run.exe1
4.Click Accept in the license agreement
5.Follow the provided instructions to select and uninstall the particular application
When uninstalling Garmin Express select:
•Garmin Express
•Garmin Express Tray
•Elevated Installer
•Garmin Update Services (skip if not present)
•ANT Drivers Installer x64
This program will need to be run again for each item on the list to be uninstalled.
Then try to install Garmin Express 4.0.8. If you do not have that installer already, it can be downloaded from http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
