|
|
I have NT North America SD map card 2011 version which I've been using on my Nuvi 1390T with no issues, however I have today bought a new Garmin 2569LMT-D and put the card into it but it says it can't unlock the maps and that they are corrupt and can't be used. The card still works ok on the 1390T, can anyone advise please. |

Not really as a Garmin supplied sd card should work in any device, it's one of the advantages in buying a card. Why it's working in one and not the other I don't know.
I assume it was a Garmin card? If so your best bet would be to contact Garmin Product Support. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Then I think you'll need to contact Product Support. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Will be interested in their reply. Earlier nuvis like your 1390 used a NT map, later ones a NTU version. The main difference is NTU maps can display additional characters that are needed on EU maps. Now the US ones are also NT.
Whether that has anything to do with it I don't know, but it's the only thing I can think of! _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Looking at the Garmin website for maps on cards
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/maps/on-the-road-maps/city-navigator-nt/city-navigator-north-america-nt-lower-49-states/prod28765.html
for the download requirements it says
Use with 1 Device Only
This product may be unlocked and used on 1 compatible device only. If you want to use this same map on subsequent devices, you must purchase a new map for each device.
Data downloaded to a microSD/SD card is associated with the device you select during the download process. Please purchase additional quantities for additional devices. |

The OP though bought the map on a card, not the download version. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Just tried the SD map card in my work mates Nuvi 2597 and it works with no issues, beginning to think there may be something wrong with my device. |

Or something different. In any case now you know for sure it's not a card issue I'd take the satnav back to the retailer and show them the problem. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

My interpretation of the Garmin website was that the card with map data is updated when it is first used on a machine such that it will not work on another machine. Could be a hardware serial number check? |

Sorry but that's simply wrong, a card cannot be updated and is not locked to a specific device. See here:
https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={16315fb0-39b2-11de-5dd5-000000000000}
with the relevant part:
Pre-programmed datacards are immediately ready for use out of the box. Simply unpack the card and insert it into your compatible GPS device. These maps do not need to be unlocked to your device which allows you to move the card to multiple devices if desired, however, having the Pre-Programmed card inserted in your computer's SD/microSD slot or in a connected device is required for use with BaseCamp2. City Navigator maps in this format are not eligible for map updates and mapping from the card cannot be copied. If you wish to obtain updated content, a new card will need to be purchased. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Just spent almost 1 hour on phone with Garmin this morning, they have tried using map unlock codes but still not working, they can't help me. Now off to Halfords prepared for battle. |

there are three formats and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
DVD/CD
- Locked (copy protected) maps are only usable on one (two in the case of marine charts) unit.
+ Maps are eligible for One Time or Lifetime updates (an additional purchase but cheaper than another DVD/CD).
+ Maps can be loaded to a computer and device.
- Purchase requires shipping with the associated delay etc.
Download
- Locked maps are only usable on one (two in the case of marine charts) unit.
- Maps are not eligible for any updates. Newer maps require another purchase.
+ Maps can be viewed in BaseCamp when the device and/or users card are connected to a computer.
+ "Instant" (barring Garmin server issues) installation.
Pre-programmed (micro)SD card
+ Locked (copy protected) maps are usable in any unit--that is they're locked to the card not a specific unit.
- Maps are not eligible for any updates. Newer maps require another purchase.
+ Maps can be viewed in BaseCamp when the card is connected to a computer (via the device or card reader). |
