I need to send my unit off for service and repair (It wont lock on to any satellites!) and the SatMap site says I should telephone them in advance. The only problem being I cannot see their telephone number anywhere on their site. Am I missing it somewhere. I contacted directory enquiries and they gave me 01372 373783 but no one answers it

The website is very confusing and they don't seem to publish the telephone address for the uk, you can always email them on techsupport@satmap.com. _________________ Satmap A10. Platform 09.02.21, Software version 1.50 Satsync 1.50

Yes that does sound a bit worrying, they are usually pretty good at responding to e-mails and phone calls.

SAY NO alternatives to the 0845 873 0101 number:
0845 873 0101
01372 869088 and 01372 869268
DO NOT SUPPORT 08XX numbers or the companies that use them if you can. |

Only last week I was having a go at the wife for using an 0845 number, then just realised I did. Luckily I phoned from work! shame they didn't answer the local number
Never mind, unit was returned with loads of new parts and looks like new, excellent service, thank you Satmap - now change the number! |

We have been contacted by Satmap and they say to use either the 0845 number or techsupport@satmap.com to avoid being frustrated by not receiving a response as the non-0845 numbers are not their standard support numbers and not checked regularly.
I suggest email to those who prefer not use 0845 numbers. Email tends to be the most efficient route to receive support anyway, not least because it leaves a "paper-trail" of what has been said and how it was resolved. _________________ Robert Brady |

SatMap's Twitter page seems to receive the most attention and prompt responses. Which is a pity, because I don't usually use Twitter, and am upset by the creeping pressure to do so.

I'm being a bit dim - but what's the problem with ringing an 0845 number... |

Some people have the ability to phone standard numbers for free depending on the type of contract they have with their phone service provider. There is usually a cost involved in phoning 0845 numbers as they often (always?) fall outside that type of contract.
Some companies like to use 0845 numbers as they share the money made from the phone call with 0845 number providers - this helps towards their bottom line and therefore, many argue, can help keep the price of their product or service down.
On the other side of the fence, many consumers do not like the fact that companies make extra money at their customer's expense. _________________ Robert Brady |
