Hi, can someone help me please...
I ran SmartST V2 for a while with my Fortuna Clip-on bluetooth GPS device. I then used Tom Tom 3 for 4 or 5 months. Anyway, now I am trying to use SmartST V2 again, and I am getting "GPS Port Closed" message when I try and use it. It has been a while since I last used it so I might be doing something basic wrong here.
I have the Tom Tom GPS driver on the Pocket PC (2003). I also see a GPS driver under settings.
Under serial settings for my bluetooth device its set to Com 8. The Tom Tom 2 driver (under programs) is set to NMEA 018v2 38400. This seems to work for Tom Tom. Do I need to remove this driver for SmartST to work again? Will Tom Tom still work if I do?
The GPS driver is also set to NMEA 018v2 38400, and Bluetooth Serial Port COM8. When I connect to my bluetooth device I can see the status tab working indicating that the connection is there.
When I then go into Smart ST and go to the GPS status and set the port to port 8 I get a "NO GPS DATA" message for approx 10 seconds and then "GPS PORT CLOSED" I have the rate set to 38400.
Has anyone any ideas what I am missing here? Thanks.
P.S. It used to work before I put Tom Tom on, and I am now on SP2 for Smart ST 2. I am not sure which of these could be the contributing factor (if any) for it not working. |

You have ticked the GPS box in the top left corner of the GPS Status screen haven't you?
If it is not ticked you will get the message 'GPS Port Closed' _________________ Ian.

Yes, I have the GPS Status ticked. It shows the uptime when I have done. When I tick the GPS box in Navman it firstly tells me "NO GPS DATA" and then "GPS PORT CLOSED" |

I remember having this problem. In fact i've just re-created it.
It happens a lot when the iPAQ switches off with the port open during a route. The only way to open the port is a soft reset.
Anyway, try a soft reset then launch ST again. Also check you have the correct baud rate. _________________ Ian.

A soft reset didn't help. How can I find out what the baud rate should be? It is set as 38400 in SmartST using the NMEA 38400 driver. |

The correct baud rate for the Fortuna is 38400
Do you need to use the TomTom GPS driver? What version is it? I thought it was only required if you are running TomTom software? _________________ Ian.

Check the TomTom driver you're using is version 2.07 which has a fix that allows software other than tomtom to use the GPS port. _________________ Ian.

Hi, I removed the tom tom driver before reading your post. It fixed the problem! Tom Tom also seems to work OK with the main GPS driver.
I'm happy now :D
Thanks very much for your help. |
