|
|
I have just downloaded the latest map for my 750 Live.
Europe_2GB V900.4602
First point.
Why does it take 1 hour 54 Min's to down load and the just as it finishes down loading you get a red line error warning that download was not completed because of time out..
OK so go through the download process again and it "downloads" in about 30 seconds flat and then starts installing -- however this takes 43 Min's??
Any reason for this.. as it is coming from my computer?
Next point
When trying out the functions.
On the "Help Me" screen Drive me to "Nearest Hospital" this is only 2.4 miles away Kettering General.. But it has now disappeared -- and it is trying to send me to Market Harborough 13.7 miles away.
What has happened to the local hospitals???
I have at the moment added it as a Fave as we go there quite a lot.
It [KGH] is still on my wifes 740Live -- but we haven't done the "update" for this as it takes so long -- got to set aside 3-4 hours..
Any ideas

USB1 explains why it takes ages to send files to the device, even when connected to a decent PC with USB 2 or 3 the port is forced to default to USB1 speed because that's all the cheap chipset within the device supports.
As for the HELP Me issues, it could be that one device has the patch file applied to it and the other hasn't, the "patch" file was a work around from a few years ago when users were reporting the nearest vet/ hospital etc was in Northern Ireland when performing a seach located in the NW of the UK, this extra data file suplemented the location data used by the useless "HelpMe" option - Mike |

I didn't even realise that a new map was available!
Just downloaded v900.4602 for my 750. It took just under 6 minutes. Can't complain.
Now lets see what TomTom have messed up this time, . _________________ Cracking Toast Gromit!

I did have a link to the patch download on the TT website, but it now just goes to their main 'support' page.
However, I think this might be a red herring as when I went to see if I had got them saved locally, I found these notes with them..
Quote: | TomTom have released updated POI files for doctors, Dentists etc for the UK!
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=7892&Lid=1 (Link no longer works 31/8/2010)
Edit 22/12/07 - TT have finally ALSO added links to download the missing "Help Me" guides on the same page
Edit 21/2/08 - I can now confirm that these add-ons are not needed if you have v715 maps as they have been included in the normal supplied POIs |
So I don't think they would help. (Anyway, if they were missing, you'd have hardly ANY Doctors, Hospitals etc. in the UK)

No, they were encrypted .ov2 files, but they DID use a clever method to MERGE themselves with the existing POIs on the device, and I proved you could use the same method to merge your OWN additions into the built-in POIs. That was really quite exciting!
Sadly that only worked until the next major software update, so that's another reason why they wouldn't work now. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Will tom-tom -- issue a latter edition for the 750 live - for our General Hospital - quite annoying really.
What I have done to over come it is add it as a Favourite.
But it is not so good for the "Help Me" section navigate to nearest hospital etc..
Just noticed also that we now do not have a Police Station in Kettering either -- bet the crooks love that !!
.. nearest police station is 10 miles away..in Corby
Seems like a right C**k up

I would guess that TomTom have given up looking at HelpMe - something users did as soon as it came out. The POI sets here are much more up to date (like the cameras ) and are updated by users in a similar way.
Click the POIs option on the top menu. (I'm on the mobile site at present so unsure of the name on the normal site).

"Free Downloads" from the top menu, or "Free POIs" from the right-hand side-bar. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Fibre....You can achieve exactly what you want with the "Map Corrections" funtionality!
If you go to Change Preferences / Map corrections / Correct a map error / Add missing POI /, you can add your local hospital.
It then DOES get used in the "Help me" menu.
As a test, I just added a new petrol station near me and that got added to the list in the Help me menu too (Help me/Walk to help / Nearest petrol station)
I didn't try it with a hospital as our local ones are already correct, but it should work in just the same way. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
