|

So what do others think, when I initially saw the new Apple Maps app I wasn't very impressed but the final GM version looks a lot better.
In comparison to the the TomTom app (yes they are using the same data) it works well and routing is very similar. So are the days numbered for chargeable sat nav apps?
In comparison to TomTom you obviously do not get all the bells 'n whistles such as IQ routes & Live services but in you home country where you have a 3G connection its OK. However if you travel abroad and do not have a cheap 3G connection the traditional sat nav apps will be better as the maps will be stored locally on the device and you will not incur high 3G usage charges. |

I suspect my wife will soon be offered this upgrade on her ipad 2. Can I ask you a couple of questions on this please.
First is there any equivalent of the satellite view and street view, or will she now loose that?
Second are the maps on board? If so do you get the whole world? Or do you have to download country by country when you need them?
Many thanks for any help you can give. _________________ Peter

There is a satellite view. For StreetView Google Maps will still be available via the browser.

No, off-board. _________________ Darren Griffin |

There's also no public transport / pedestrian routing available.

Darren, can you please give me a clue as to HOW I can see StreetView on my iPad 3? I've downloaded Google Earth and can't make it do it. I downloaded Google Maps and that didn't either. _________________ Dennis

"Not available from UK App Store, Change store?". YES. "Unable to connect to store."
Hmm. Now I shall see what happens if I click that link from desktop. _________________ Dennis

OK, Darren, thank you, now downloaded. It's only small on the iPad, HOWEVER, it is far better than no StreetView. I shall see how it looks on iPhone next. _________________ Dennis

Don't forget to change the Language to British English rather than the default of English, which is American!

Mine wasn't set correctly that after the update, neither was my dads, my friends here or MaFt's so there is something going wrong somewhere!

Yer mean Siri might even understand me then? Last time I swore at him he actually replied that he had found nothing for syllabus.
I've just looked at iPad and see it says English, which made sense. For laughs, I scrolled down and oddly enough found British English. So now I'm a minority language. _________________ Dennis
