Ok I appear to have my TT720 working again.
As removing all files from ephem did not work for me?
This is my solution
I connected unit to computer and deleted all files from the SD card (I ran everything from SD)
Copied a previous backup to SD card (we all keep backups don't we)
So now I have ap 9.43 map v885
Ran TT home and did not change or update anything.
Remove from computer
It works and shows correct home location!!!!
Reconnect to TT home and update map etc.
Do not update Quickfix files via home
Remove from computer and it seems fine
Lets hope its now Ok

When you say "reconnect to Home and update map etc." I'm guessing you HAD to update the software again too?
So are you actually back to exactly the same software and map version as you were on when you were seeing the problem?
That might be quite an important diagnostic clue.... _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Had this problem. Just connected my 530 to Home and found a new QgpsF [that was not there 5 hours ago], downloaded it and nothing else, and my 530 is now back to normal. Diagnosis complete I think? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Hi Andy_P
Yes to your question.
The only thing I did not update was quickfix.
I see from Guivre46 that there is a new file.
I think I'll wait and see what others think about this before I try it.
To be honest I've had enough for 1 day
All the best

Well I experienced the same problem today after having not used my 530 for a while. I updated it yesterday ready for use today, but on trying it today found my position was not being correctly positioned on the TT. The end results being that the route was constantly beng re-calculated as the TT kept trying to place me on the nearest road to my position.
Anyway, having done a bit of re-search and following the links on this forum I did the following with the TT attached/connected to my PC whihch seems to have fixed teh problem...
ephem - deleted all the files from within this folder on the TT. (I don't have a SD card on my 530, but perhaps those of you that do may need to see if this folder appears on both the TT memory and the SD card and delete all the files inside both folders?)
Deleted all the files from the folder \Documents\TomTom\HOME\Download\complete\ephemeris
Disconnected the TT via the home software.
Turned off the TT.
Turned TT back on - said NO when asked if I wanted to connect to PC.
Confirmed TT was reporting my position correctly (it was).
Turned off the TT.
Turned TT back on - said YES when asked if I wanted to connect to PC.
Did an Update and got the Quick GPS Fix (Nothing else offered).
Turned off the TT.
Turned TT back on - said NO when asked if I wanted to connect to PC.
Confirmed TT was reporting my position correctly (it was).
I hope this is some help to other people. |

I wonder if the leap second on 30th June had any effect on this? _________________ Drivelux |

It seems it did. The replacement gps file now available via Home resolves the issue to my understanding. _________________ David |

I've had the same problem with my 720 shifting its position up to 500 metres away.
Did all the suggested solutions reset, deleting gps file etc. then downloading the updated file. However the problem was still there!
Deleted the gps file again from the 720 and normal operation resumed.
So I'm not going to download THAT file again, until I'm sure it's fixed. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 50 LMT-D App 5.90

I've never felt the need to download the QuickGPSfix. My 720 gets a satellite lock pretty quickly anyway.
This isn't the first time the file has screwed up devices, and I'd rather restrict the possible sources of problems caused by TomTom to essential files. _________________ Anita

Deleting the quickfix files on my mac and 920 before downloading the updated version seems to have worked on a small trip out tonight to check that it held the road position.
Unfortunately, I now get an error message in Home effectively saying that files are missing. I deleted the files via finder (equiv to file manager / windoze explorer) rather than using the 'manage my Tomtom' section of home as it doesn't let you get to the actual 'system' files.
Would trying to put something back just confuse it as the numbers would be out of sequence? I guess it stores old files as QuickGPSfix-18, QuickGPSfix-19 etc.

I don't know what files it thinks you're missing, but emptying the "ephem" folder completely shouldn't generate any error messages.
Sure nothing else got selected by accident? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

On the Mac I took out all the files / folders in
tomtom/downloads/complete/ephemeris/
but left that folder
An in the 920 ephem folder:
ee_meta.tlv
ee_meta.txt
packedephemeris.ss
Is this more than I should have taken out? Downloading the latest guickgpsfix has replaced the above files with the new versions... |

That's what I've removed in the past. So afraid I can't explain the error message you got. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
